Yes - Clint is regular sized (not slim). Keep in mind that fit and styling are too different things when looking at measurements. Some shapes are straighter and others are a little fuller, as part of the design of the style. A bomber jacket should have a little bit more of a balloon shape than a jacket that fits more straight. I would expect a bomber to have slightly bigger measurements. Nothing dramatic but certainly an intent to create a little more volume.

So good. I'm sorely tempted but not confident enough in my size to roll the dice on a pre-order
If I had to guess, Greg will be carrying this one in-store. But, I think it’s probably the one jacket that would sell out the quickest.

I’m so surprised to see so few preorders for the KS umbrella coat. When I put it on, I thought there it is, this is exactly what a classic bal should be. I thought it would be a blowout on preorders 🤷🏻

Thank you very much. That's about what I thought regarding the bomber shape and fit.

How do people feel about the navy color in the Virgil? The green is great, but I find myself drawn to the navy.

I love so many of the KS pre-order but the fact that they top out at 42 leaves me out unfortunately. I wish they would offer up to 44.

This coat is really oversized! I’m always a 42 in KS and this sample was a 4/40 and plenty big already.

Hunter jacket also fits oversized.

We’ve always carried the slim fit valstarino, because we started carrying them before they came up with a non-slim fit - in fact, when we started selling them they had their Italian fit (slim) and a Japanese fit (extra slim and shorter). Then they started getting into US stores and came up with a wider fit.

We chose to stick with the same fit for consistency to make sure people knew it fit the same as before. Now, there are people (slim guys) who wear their regular size in our Valstarino. It’s a minority and I envy that they can fit in the slim model, but there are definitely some customers who do not size up (body + preference for a slim fitting garment)

Most of our customers prefer the fit of one size up though. Either because they can’t close it otherwise (me) or because they just prefer a roomier fit.

I believe the linen valstarinos are only made in the non-slim fit. In fact, I think that only the classic suede Valstarinos have those multiple fits. You should check the measurements charts but I wouldn’t be surprised if the wool Valstarinos this season are a regular fit. I couldn’t try them at all because size 50 (sample size) is just impossible for me.

Valstar now makes garments with all sorts of volumes and fit. You can see me wearing some size 50 and 52 samples (1 and 2 sizes down for me) and it almost looks fine (I would probably still take my regular 54 in everything I’ve tried, except suede Valstarinos.

Shearling is a different beast. Some people think they can layer under a shearling coat as much as under a wool coat. You cannot. Shearling lined sleeves get too stuffed. If they had to cut shearling sleeves wide enough to slide in a thick sweater or a tweed jacket, the sleeves would look strangely big (not Valstar’s aesthetic).

I think that most shearling I’ve tried have been TTS as long as the layering underneath is limited. Size up if you know you’ll be stacking them layers.

There’s sizing charts for every style, I believe. As images on the product page. Use those not so much as absolute numbers but to compare with another jacket you have. If you have a suede valstarino from us in a size you like, use that chart to compare with other styles (specifically shoulders and chest)

Thank you very much for the detailed info Greg, this is a great explanation

@gdl203 I saw the KS Walker coat on Instagram. Is the umbrella the same?
No the umbrella is different. We’re also offering the Walker for preorders and we have (had?) it in stock this season in a grey taupe color.

See the difference in volume between Umbrella and Walker coat in the same size on the same person. Details are also a bit different (e.g. placket)

Walker is a great coat too but the merino alpaca fabrics offered in the Umbrella were too good to pass.

jump ball (and apologies for any doubletaps) - if i am a solid fit in tag size 56 in the 2018-2020 valstar cow suede clint western jacket, what should i take in the jaspers? measurements look (much) more generous in the jaspers, perhaps intended fit is different?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
