Any more pictures of the Donegal 2 on feet? Ideally a full fit but at least with trousers. Tried them on and they fit really well but cannot figure out if I like the style or not…

Damn it! These were going to be my next purchase but I went for the Pembroke instead because they were available at a discount on the 317, which I need. However, the Donegal II look great in that photo. I haven't been able to find many photos yet. How is the fit?
I find the toebox more narrow than the 365 last and even the 325 last. But this is due to my preference of wearing wool felt inlay soles. Without them C&J's specification of of the last 394 as a "generous toe box with plenty of room in the fore part that is coupled with our closer fitting heel" is absolutely correct. Anyway, the Donegal 2 is very comfortable.

I really like this style of boot. I’ve thought about MTO’ing a Galway which is similar. I like the apron fronted shoes also, like the Onslow and Balfour.
I love the Galway too. A shoe salesman once told be that a shoe/boot with an apron is a connoisseur's shoe due to the level of craftsmanship required to get it right.

These are your Moray, right… picked up in last years AW sale? My tongue in mine doesn’t do that yet, they’ve taken to the shape of my leg and the shaft of the boot quite well.

Oddly, I was thinking about how often we’ve collectively complained about the tongue in the Islay or Coniston. In my “fleet” of Islay only my OG DBSG pair has a misbehaving tongue.

I’ve got two with half-bellows via (G)MTO, 2 pairs that have lined tongues that are far stiffer. The latest being the recent Special Order Zug Islay, which is beautifully lined and crafted.

Yep they are from AW24 sale.
By "lined tongues" do you mean a full bellows tongue?
I cannot decide if a half or full bellows tongue is better. I suppose they both do the job and serve purpose.

I mean lined, like the beige soft leather lining in the shaft. I’ve got on one Islay that’s lined because the boot has a waterproof membrane. The other is the Zug, which feels really stiff lined as well as the thick Zug leather.

I’ve got 5 boots with bellows, 4 half and one full.

If I ever do a single MTO I’ll always spec a tongue upgrade. Worth the £50.

Ah ok i get it now. You meant the lining itself on the tongue 👍

From experience, do you prefer a half or full bellows tongue ?

I agree. Boots that high need at least a half bellow tongue. My Eskdale 2 misbehaves on one foot and I hate it. Unless I tie it quite tight, it slides right down the boot exposing my socks. I have a RMW Rickaby boot that has a leather lined tongue and a cutout to slide the lace in to prevent it from moving. If I buy another pair of boots, defo needs to have something to stop movement. But I won't be buying anymore boots...I need to stop looking at pictures of the Grizedale and stop coming here

goodbye

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
