I take a 9E in Barrie/Trubalance and a UK8.5 in C&J. I’ve tried on their UK9’s, and not surprisingly even in their narrower lasts, I’m swimming in them.

Another data point for you: US10.5E on almost all AE lasts but also 10.5E on the Trubalance last (high instep so I’m an outlier. UK10E on the Galway 2 and ... oh, that tasseled loafer on the 325. In fact, UK10E on the 341 and 240.

Merry Christmas!

This means that the last which Islay is built on 365 is wrong for your feet. You tried 8.5, and it's too short, then you tried 9, and it's too big. This last is wrong for your feet, trust me on this. It does not matter what your Brannock size is or what your Alden sizing is. The last is wrong for your feet.

C&J shoes are always 1 full size down from your US size. So UK 9 is US 10, Robert Old conversion is wrong.
I would ship those shoes back for a refund and forget about Islay. Yes, it will cost you $ to ship it back, but it will cost you $$$ to keep ill-fitting shoes.

Try different models, for example, Coniston on 325 last or Sky on 335 last.
Judging by what you said about your Alden sizing on Barrie/Truebalance last, I would recommend that you try C&J lasts 325 and 335 in size 8.5 UK.
Thanks everyone for the feedback. I want to clarify my issue because it's also the same with Tricker's 4497 last:
1) 8.5UK is the correct length in Tricker's and C&J 325 and 365 but it's too narrow to where it will cause regular pain on my little toe which doesn't go away over time. So the length is fine but the forefoot is a bit too narrow for me. I have found this even *worse* with the Coniston and 325. With Tricker's, it's the same thing. This has made it very challenging for me to wear off-the-shelf British boots, at least from those two makers in those lasts. The last Joseph Cheaney uses on their Tweed C models is fine in an 8.5UK. It may be that I can't wear most C&J and Tricker's at this point (I've owned many and ended up selling all of them). A 9UK in Tricker's 4497 is too long and has too much volume but it doesn't bother my toe. An 8.5UK fitting 6 on the 4497, e.g. the Grassmere, is passable but has more width and volume than I need). I don't doubt the Islay would be the same if I kept it and tried to work with it.
2) On the other hand, Alden Barrie and Trubalance fit me perfectly in 9D, especially Trubalance, so it may be that I have to emphasize Alden at this point since those are lasts I can wear that don't end up causing annoying, nagging issues. It's a shame because I really love C&J and Trickers, but having tried the Coniston twice and the Islay now twice, and probably a dozen Tricker's boots over the last 9 years (actually, come to think of it, the 4444 last does fit me fine in 8.5UK, so I'd have to find a boot built on the 4444 rather than a Bourton), it's becoming clear that those lasts don't work for my feet.

@Carson, you might want to also try C&J last 240, which is available from Brooks Brothers.

Hi all ! Happy Christmas and I hope everyone has been keeping well. Quick sizing question. I take a 7.5 in most CJ lasts. I have a pair of calf Skye’s in 7.5 and they fit perfect. For a pair of cordovan skyes, would I be looking to size down? I don’t know where I’ve read this but I’ve heard the cordovan ones run a size bigger?
Thanks !

I have both calf and cordovan boots on 325 last, and the cordovan version indeed has slightly more volume. The length is the same though. I wouldn't size down as you'd run the risk of the boots being a little too short.

Did anyone happen to get a list of which styles are included in this year’s winter sale beginning in a few days? Thanks in advance.

I would also recommend trying othotic insoles like superfeet 3/4 insoles.

I had the same problem and looked at multiple lasts but it was either too roomy but correct length if 1/2 size up or too small with 1/2 size down.

Once I started using them I never looked back. Some people just have non typical feet and a simple adjustment like this could increase the horizon of shoes they can wear.

For those interested in Winter Sale - got an autoresponse form Mail Order. This is the list available to Mail Order (so includes VAT in posted prices - meaning US customers will pay 16.67% less).

Not sure if everything available in every size. I would be surprised if they all were.

Good number of discontinued styles - my guess is clearing them out and probably have limited sizes in these especially.

Hello gentlemen, I'm new to C&J, having owned a pair of the Black Editions Conistons for 6 months, purchased from the NYC store. I've only worn them 3 times due to working from home and finally getting some cool boot weather here in California. I've noticed some creasing on the top of my left boot that was irritating my big toe a bit. On further inspection way inside the boot I realized I missed an area where the lining seems to have been sanded through during production. The right boot is fine. I see some kind of machining on the lining all around the toe just above the insole, and it looks like they punched through here. Doesn't seem to affect the suede at all. Is this worth making an issue of, or if it would be under any kind of "warranty" at this point? And no, I don't have some kind of scaly bunion or anything weird! Both photos are the left boot - one I used a mirror so it looks like the right boot. I'm grateful for any advice. Sigh, 2020.

I have a feeling you may have half a size too small.

I used to get those before I started using the insoles (basically to fill the volume of the shoes I was buying 1/2 size smaller but that resulted in narrower forepart because my feet was not where it was designed to be).

You may have got away with suede because it is so soft and also stretchy.
