Please critique the fit of my new suits

Hi all, I just graduated from university and picked up a few suits for my first job. I was wondering if you could give me your opinion on the fit.

The first suit is navy and are shown in pictures 1-6. My impressions are that it may be slightly long, and there is too much fabric in the back.

The second suit is brownish/grey and is shown in pictures 7-11.

The third suit is a black pinstripe and is shown in the remainder of the pictures. I feel like the trousers may be a bit short since they're slim fitting pants and they tend to pull up as I walk.

Thanks in advance for your help and comments. I intend to go back to the store I picked them up from but want to be able to tell them what I'd like changed.

For God's sake, son, get some decent shoes first! If you wore square-toed shoes to my office I'd send you home! You could be wearing a Brioni but with those shoes anything you wear is going to look jacked!

+1, its gonna be expensive to alter, simply size down. The collar and shoulders seem to big, I also thing that you could go for a shorter length. I dont know what it is, but department stores do not know how a suit should fit. I was in Nordstroms recently, i know a few of the sales guys there and i'm trying on a 38R in a newer italian brand (forget the name, started with a C). The 38R fit fantastic OTR, one of the guys walks over an insists i should try a 40. I look at him and say 'No'. End of convo. I have maybe 1 or 2 sales people i know from department stores that can really spot a good fit. Go to a store like RL, Niemans, ect, and its a totally different story, they're usually very good with fit.

The fit is not perfect but I think it is better than 80% of the suits you see on the street. I would have the tailor take in the first suit at the top of the back vent, that will reduce some of the excess fabric you see around the shoulders in the back.

I used to make the same mistake when I was younger....
My suits were always one size bigger than needed...
There is nothing worse than an ill-fitted suit ...
Regarding shoes , buy a good pair of toe cap shoes or classic oxfords and they will go with everything..

Guess square toe shoes are a no no? They were a gift from the girlfriend and I thought they were a nice pair of Ferragamo's but I do have a pair of Brown oxford’s I plan on matching with the grayish suit. After reading your comments, I’m having some serious buyers remorse after seeing some of your posts. The first suit is a Z-Zenga ‘city’ line. After reading some recent posts here on SF, this only re-enforces my remorse. The first suit is a 36R. The second suit is a Z-Zenga “Drop 8” model. The strange thing is, the second suit is a 38R and seems to fit more snugly. The third suit is a Dolce & Gabbana ‘Martini’ cut. I like the fit of this one the best but it’s a little too informal for the office given how skinny the pants are. I purchased these suits at harry rosen in Toronto. My SA was very helpful but he wasn’t around when I went to pick them up as it was almost closing time, and I was in a hurry so I didn’t have time for a fitting. I plan to go back in a few weeks after my CFA exam. They have free alterations for life, but I’m worried that they won’t be able to do anything since the shoulders are too big and everyone’s saying I should size down one. And now I can’t take them back since they’ve already been altered. From now on I think I should go MTM. I guess I can chalk this up to learning experiences, though clearly it was an expensive experience. Thank you everyone for all of your criticisms and comments. I can only learn through the helpful advice of others.

Jackets too big, your swimming in the shoulders. The sleeevs could us a shortening too, your better off though going down a size.

I like Z-Zegna suits as well as Dolce & Gabbana. Both brands have a nice trim cut. The quality isn't as good as mainline Zegna but not shabby at all for your first 3 suits.

The Dolce suit alone runs around 2k for full retail. That's a pretty big loss to just chalk up. If you have free lifetime alterations, make the tailor get it right. Don't mess with the shoulders or length but a good tailor can trim up the rest. The lapels on Z-Zegna and Dolce are quite a bit slimmer than standard, so match it up with a slimmer tie once you've had the next round of alterations.

Girlfriends love square toe shoes, don't listen.

Unfortunately, I can't go down a size now that the suits have been altered. I just have to hope that the tailor can do something about the fit, but given that part of the problem lies with the shoulders, I'm not very hopeful as I've been told the two things you shouldn't mess with are the shoulders and the chest area.
