Someone had to get chosen. Personal friends or no, everyone's clothes are up for judgment. Don't take it the wrong way.

If you feel like you have to choose someone to be the target of your scorn, that's your decision. My comment is that, beyond the value they provide in turning you against Pitti, they are also fun to be around.

The wrong way??? It's more that you are just sitting back in your chair hating without trying to have any understanding of what's going on. At least you are living up to your screen name. Why don't you try to articulate what you don't like about their outfits instead of being flatly negative and combative? We could have an interesting discussion about why they made those choices and where they are coming from. There are plenty of people at Pitti who dress simply to "shock and awe" without any point of reference or understanding of what they are doing. These people are not among that group.

Let's talk about the clothes and not the people.

The guy on the right always looks great in the most casual way...he is about the best example of what I consider casual elegance.

What on earth do you think my post was referring to?

I suppose what the people are wearing but who knows. You still haven't anything intelligible about their attire. Unless my reading comprehension is significantly off all I've got from you so far is that "these people" make you not like or possibly want to go to Pitti and that because they exist someone had to get chosen for judgement.

Thanks for the photos, Erik. Congrats on your trunk show.

Things look pretty tame this year. I think my outfit for the Friday Challenge is bolder than most of this stuff. I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this, but tucking your tie into your pants seems to be a thing this year or has that always been a thing? Also, if you have any stock in sock companies, it looks like it may be time to sell.

I hope it goes without saying, people are not their clothes. You can like/dislike someone no matter what they're wearing. Pitti seems awesome because of what Erik keeps mentioning i.e. being able to nerd it out with like minded people regardless of whether you like their clothes or not. I think the two ladies in the picture in question look beautiful. The guy in the khaki reminds me of a Southern Nikola Tesla/mad scientist about to perform a magic trick. All the buttons on his jacket remind me of my recent trip to Colonial Williamsburg. I don't like the other guys outfit either for reasons I can't quite articulate. I think it would look a lot better with a collared shirt. They all look pretty interesting. I wouldn't mind meeting the lot of them.

I echo those who want to thank @EFV for taking the time out of his already busy schedule to post all of these photos for us.

Once he’s has caught up on his sleep, I’d love to get a verbal report from him sharing his impressions of this year’s Pitti. Based on his photos, things seem considerably toned-down compared to recent years, but I don’t know if that was actually the case or just the consequence of his choice of photos.

The New York Times had a short, fairly insignificant, piece on Pitti today which, however, included the following intriguing claim:

“[T]o a substantial extent, a hyper-macho bruiser look has supplanted that of the dandies who held sway in recent seasons.”

I’d be interested in first-hand confirmation or disconfirmation.

Cheers,

Ac

Just looking at the pictures on this thread, and particularly the one that @Caustic Man doesn't like, the guys in the vest, henley, pants, and plimsoles, dresses like an extra in a Prohibition era mob picture. There seemed to be a lot more of that "ye old workwear" look.
