Panerai at the office?

Here is an explicit elitist response for the hell of it...

One of the reasons why I have stopped wearing my Panerai watches is because every intern and his trust fund trustee has one. YAWN! Even cab drivers in Singapore are wearing Panerai. Double YAWN.

Just like the nutters over at the denim forum are up-at-arms because every other denim brand are now offering selvedge, the appeal of Panerai has crept into the mainstream.

All the better reason to ditch it and spend thousands on an independent brand that nobody has ever heard off.

I wore a 190 daily to work for about a while and now wear a 233 daily to work. On wall street people's watch preferences run the gamut. Lots of MDs wear a casio and couldn't care less, others will have deep collections and notice your Panerai, but usually not in a bad way.

wear it with pride, chance are only a few people will notice it anyway. as with most sports watches nowadays i think it's a perfect watch for the office. dressier/thin watches are more suited when your wearing a tux...

Hmm, I would not - but im not a Panerai guy either. For me, it would be too much of a casual compromise not being able to button the cuff, and going Italian with unbuttoned cuffs is not very bizniz to me. But, hey, do what you want; I have been pulling of worse *********** (investment company...) office so I reckon it would be no problem. The key is to act if it is complety natural and with a hint of f u attitude.

i wear mine to the office regularly in a rotation. no one really notices (or at least comments). it certainly doesn't look too casual as long as you've got a leather strap on it.

the biggest problem is buttoning the cuff over it. i actually make sure i wear the watch (it's my biggest) to MTM fittings so that they can make my left cuff bigger.

I think people would notice as most of the guys I work with wear pretty spectacular watches. With salaries for first year i-bankers dropping to 80-100k and an effective tax rate in the city of 40%, it would not go over well to see some intern wearing a watch that cost 1/10th of your salary.

I wear my Panerai with suits all of the time. Not an issue---never felt "under-watched" so to speak! That being said, most of the time in a formal meeting I wear my Pasha or the S/G Submariner with the blue face.

I wore an 18k IWC MkXII fresh out of law school as well as a Master Grand Taille...because I was a watch nut and that was all I really spent money on. The Panerai is very flashy due to it's size...but chances are nobody will have a clue what it is. I have several Panerai "homage" watches and people always ask about them, because they are big F***ers.

I wear a Panerai with suits all the time but it's my 210 Radiomir with a gator strap. It is dressier/thinner than the Luminor's and fits under most of my cuffs (to lazy to adjust those that don't quite fit). I save my Luminors for more casual occasions. At 45mm it's big - but the size is not an issue as most of the watch is hidden under the cuff. Most of what is visible is the beautiful crown and simple, elegant "base" dial. IMHO Rad's make the better choice for dress but still think most people don't care and you should wear what makes you happy.

Good idea , because all the Singapore Taxi cab drivers wear fake Panerai, no one else should, or that trust funders wear Panerai, no one else should. That is a heard mentality, wear whatever you want, because you want to, not because someone does or doesn't.

No issues with wearing it at the office but you should reconsider the white dial.
