Is it really the Canadian equivalent of Bergdorf? I think I visited one when I was in Toronto last year and felt it was more like Saks or Neiman Marcus.

Well, they sell Tom Ford, Kiton, Brioni, Isaia, Loro Piana, etc.. at their flag ship.

Their flag ship is also the only location that offers bespoke.

so do saks and neiman marcus...

Being serious, not sarcastic, how would you characterize Bergdorf? I've been there once, and they seemed to have alot of the same brands (but better shoe selection).

They had the instore shops for TF, Armani, etc...

In my eyes, Bergdorf is a step above those stores.

it's mostly a perception and presentation. BG has far fewer locations. is more spiffy (and perhaps more pretentious). products wise, the flagship stores for BG, Saks and NM are similar...

edit: " Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus are sister stores, both owned by the Neiman Marcus Group. Many people are baffled as to why Neiman Marcus doesn’t have an outpost in New York City—but that’s because they’re basically the same store! They have been affiliated since 1972."

Right, as far as I know though, there are only two BG stores, Men's and Women's.

to my knowledge - there is only one Bergdorf goodman - in NYC (well womens/mens locations). BG has unique items - G Lorenzi, vintage restored items, etc. BG had higher end versions of items that neimans sells. unique shoe offerings too (not that the shoes are the best of the best). NM is going to have a MASSIVE store open in NYC soon. different clientele.

Interesting. I've been in the store and at a glance it seemed very similar to the others but with nicer set dressing. The only other thing I knew about it is that Sartorialist used to gush about it and claimed that it was the only store in NY that mixed designers in it's windows and it had a great magazine - in other words it was notable for it's "style" as much as its offerings (which sounded like pretty down the fairway names: hickey, Brunello Cucinelli, Etro, etc).

Some Neiman Marcus Last Call stores get Bergdorf stuff too. The Philadelphia Mills (used to be called Franklin Mills) store anyway gets a lot of suits & SCs from Bergdorf, including brands like Kiton, Caruso, Isaia, Belvest, etc. Ties from Drake's, E. Marinella, Breuer, etc. Other NMLCs are mostly Neiman Marcus stuff. I've never seen any Bergdorf shoes end up there though.
