I read somewhere that Neo both means "new" and is an anagram for "One", so NeoPrep is really an allusion to the fact that followers of NeoPrep are disciples of the one true prep style that is both old and new at the same time.

It is cool how this stuff is so layered with deep meaning that you can talk about it for days.

... Or weeks, or months, or years...

There is no one 'true' style. There is no one style. Classics are never static they always move with the times. It's all a spectrum.

A rainbow of Oxford cloth & Tweed...

Join me under it, do.

You've got it. Sailing chino, exactly. Cadet blue...is that like, sky blue? I like the VV "Dolphin" color, very much.

If this idea ever materializes, do I have to give you or your chum some...er, you know...credit??

A chum of mine had the idea (nicked from Nantucket Reds and Marblehead Greens) of inventing 'Newport Blues' - A softly faded Cadet Blue heavy cotton flat fronted 'Sailing' Chino worn slightly short with maybe 2" cuffs. Why not? Reds were only invented around the late 50's or early 60's (forget which & am too lazy to check) and Greens only came along a few years ago.
Sell the 'romance' of Newport & you'd sell the trousers! Dress them up with a Trad blazer or down with a White polo shirt. Add a pair of 'Newport' topsiders. Classic relaxed American style!

Fun, all this, eh?

I think we're more shoulder to shoulder, Ol' Chum.

... And as I wear those slouchy 'natural shoulders' you'll remain forever above me...

- I'm right aren't I? NOBODY has as much fun as you & me on the Net.!

FNB's Mr. Tony Ventresca invented Newport Blues I should have said. Credit where credit's due.

Your idea of 'Newport East' & 'Newport West' is very good. Newport East can cover "Trad", Newport West can be the same blue cloth cut into slim fit chinos for the NeoPrep crowd.

"Newport" will be a very clean-cut style of Preppy dress, but we will subliminally tap into the advertising of Newport Cigarettes and exploit all that they have done before us:

"Newport Blue" will be the key thing to talk about...

"It was a small white cottage just to the right of the cliffs - its shutters painted Newport Blue. I'll never forget that first time... That Summer with Charlotte... "

**** like that.

We'll get the cloth run up in China.

"Newport Blues: Still the same today."

(Of course they f*cking are - They didn't exist yesterday!)

Another post- 'J.Crew' English company playing with NeoPrep aesthetics:

http://www.joulesclothing.com/category/Womens.htm

It's a very un-English style all this, even though the inspiration for the whole Ivy, Trad, Preppy thing originally came from over here.

NeoPrep in England kind of sells English style back to us, but it is English style transformed from being in America.

Interesting...

Very interesting.

Would you say the sartorial influence is mostly US-->UK these days?

In this genre, yes.

We never used to have clothes like these you know.

We've had Prep schools since forever but never a codified Preppy style in the UK.

I quite like that we have an imported one now. There are worse things for kids to wear...

Not to worry - that is referring to Newport Beach in California.

NeoPrep's Newport Blues evoke the rarefied Trad aura of Newport, RI. But with a NeoPrep twist that makes it too cool for school.
