Playing catch up so have only seen up to MLK. Not sure how you guys missed what "buy it in the room" meant.

Anyway, still loathe the show, but this is fun.

Way better pic that is NSFW but shows why ST was loved.

If this turns out to be true then this show is on an even higher level of writing than I thought. Weiner is a genius man.

To me Bob Benson is just the nice guy of the show.
The only optimistic and caring about people. A change of pace compared to all the cynical characters of the show.

That was one of my theories. He's just actually genuinely nice and the cynical business minded power and money hungry people of Madison Ave don't know how to handle that.

I guess Weiner is making a point that the one nice, caring person would be the one without barely a role to play in the company? Anyway, I find Ken Cosgrove to be a good, successful guy. Unless I'm forgetting something Bert Cooper is swell also.

Not really, it would be rather pointless. Don's past and the way he presently carries himself are linked. What would that have to do with Bob Benson?

I guess it goes w/o saying that any "big reveal" would only be interesting if it was a foundation for future character or plot development. Since, you are getting all serious, what I meant was that the doppelganger/parallel life was a recurring motif of this season; for instance: the promotional poster; Harry Hamlin is "Roger Sterling w/bad breath"; Megan plays a soap character with an evil twin; Peggy's replacement at SCDP is a less smart, less attractive version of herself (who actually has the exact same name, Margaret); Duck Phillips comes back to Jacob Marley Pete Campbell. Bob Benson is Don Draper-12 years would be an interesting way to complete that theme [obviously predicated on people thinking the actor has the firepower to deliver in that role).

Interesting idea. He does have some similarities to Don the eager fur salesman.

This is interesting. Aren't the missing pieces of this story 1) how Don Draper went from eager beaver walk-in to the dominant alpha dude we saw in ep. 1; 2) how he finds some manner of contentment in his perfect life. Bob Benson to Draper:1970 would be a great counterpoint to Draper getting some peace.

{Draper and his twin going in opposite directions [and does the twin look a little like Bob]}

What struck me interesting from the promotion poster is that if you look closely the Don in the background holding a breifcase and looking all business like is walking towards the scene of a crime, while the other Don is walking away from it while holding a womans hand

Bob Benson gave Campbell that nurse recommendation in the last episode because he nursed his father to full health. In the first episode when he got caught by Cosgrove in the office for sending the platter to Sterling's mother's funeral he said he sent it because he knew how it was to lose his father.

It's not necessarily a lie; perhaps his father was very close to death and Benson felt as if he was going to lose him.

Perhaps his father was nursed back to health only to leave him.

Merely fanning the flames for the Benson haters.

This all seems too much to be coincidence.

Kind of a weird, overstuffed episode in general, but I loved that last shot. Maybe there's hope for Pete yet.
