I'm planning to buy some Woodlore Ultra shoe trees from Amazon for a friend and myself. I wear a UK9.5 Capital and he wears a UK9 Capital. Is there anyone here using Woodlore Ultra trees who can give a sizing reference? Thanks!

Are they selling the 1880 line? The prices seem okay at best right?

I just got the cannons

1000

1000

The sole doesn't bother me, but the welt is kind of gross looking. Are these first quality for loake or are these seconds?

John Simons purveyor of the original Royals in the 1960s gave me a little comparative study of the original Royal (he still retains a few for posterity) and the current Loake Royal Brogue.  The original was, he said far superior in nearly every way - quality of the leather, the finishing, colour, etc.  What he could not forgive about the current Loake was that very thing - the seam on the instep.  Bad enough on a £150 shoe but at this level.......

I was in Galway, Ireland last week and had a chance to examine the Loake Taunton in Logues shoe shop there.

Sadly, Loake have compromised the shoe with not one, but two ugly seams on the instep side.

700

Certainly not something you want on shoes at this price level.

ridethecliche, it's pretty standard finishing on welt for shoes at this price range.

Hm, thanks. The other shoe is fine which is why I'd asked. My AEs were finished better...

I bought the Rothschild, great shoes, the Duke last fits great for me, It would be great if they made boots with this last. After reading some opinons I was bit reluctant about Loake calf, bus this Rothschild model comes witha very decent calf for the price, I think is a great shoe overall.

It's only a matter of luck, I have seen perfectly finished 1880 as badly finished pairs, or perfectly finished pairs with visible belly leather with weird creasing.
At this price point it's pretty common.

In the Cannon above it's really a irrilevant flaw, a bit of shoe cream and it will be invisible.

Imho Loake and Allen Edmonds are only vaguely comparable...

Where would you draw the line in comparison and difference between loake and ae?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
