Thanks for sharing. I do feel the cap toes are the best option for my current tastes, but I am not sure whether I will go in that direction or not. Will think on that a bit. If they had a crimson CXL Diesel/Edward with a brown welt that would probably be ideal.

A pic of the captoes in crimson CXL to give you further food for thought. Pairs well with dark denim or chinos. Oddly enough the same crimson CXL looks different in the diesels and captoes - the diesels look significantly darker/reddish and richer, while the captoes are more chocolate brown with less red hues. Could be leather from different batches with different finishing I suppose.

They look great! However, that is a substantial difference in color. They do look quite brownish. 🤔 very interesting.

I took my new Diesel saddle tan boots to my shoe guy to talk about pros and cons of adding rubber half soles. I was told not to add the half soles until wear the boots for a while. He said the leather soles are so stiff and adding half soles would make them stiffer. He said wait until soles break in - not so stiff.

It really depends on how you walk. I wore through at least half of the leather sole at the toe within a couple wears. Or rather the full leather sole since I was starting to hit the midsole. I think breaking in the leather soles at home first would have mitigated this a bit since I could have had them broken in before walking on pavement. The stiffness of a new leather sole can cause the toes to strike the ground at a much worse angle, I think.

In general I wear down heels the fastest and then the toe with rubber soles. I can't imagine ever wearing out the ball area first, but some people do just that.

I was going to get those triumph toe taps installed on mine, but I had no luck finding any local cobbler/shoe repair shops that did that (or even knew what they were) and I am way too impatient to ship my new boots anywhere now. I guess I'll just get them installed during the 1st resole!

👋 Me, I do just that. I tend to walk on the ball of my feet. Mix that with motorcycle riding and the ball area is the first to wear. Next is the outside of each heel.

On another note, that CXL lottery folks talk about, I won! These are the ones Wyatt and Giovanni picked out personally. Today I got the full Grant Stone experience. Everyone knows I have meticulously inspected them. They are perfect! Soooo happy right now!

I looked at the samples and have a question about what I saw. Will grant stone be using scotch grain in the near future? I adore the pebbled grain finish. Thanks guys!

We do plan on bringing back another scotch grain at some point, most likely fall of next year in smaller runs.
@GrantStone I saw your sample sale and absolutely love the dark brown kangaroo Edwards and the kudu sneaker. are there plans for either of those to become reality?

Sorry, unfortunately not. The kangaroo leather (jungle and natural) will be discontinued altogether later this year. The tannery is no longer tanning this article and it's becoming harder to find, especially with a tannage similar to this and a heavier weight. It's a shame, it's beautiful leather for footwear.

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
