You could also wait for Barney's warehouse sale in NYC, probably some time in August. Other than that, You could probably walk out of any Saks or Neimans with a great suit for about $1k including tax and tailoring. Also, if you (your parents) live in a state without the store you are buying from, shipping there may be less than paying tax.

Given the other stores mentioned earlier in the thread - Saks, NM, Barney's - I think Boyds is a comparable local alternative (Ok there's a Saks on City Ave, and a NM and Nordstroms in KoP - but that's not Philadelphia). On sale, one could do OK. Plus one of the reasons given for the retail shops was to help determine size...

It's their top suit, made in New York by Martin Greenfield. At around $500 it's grea value for the money. They do not sell Golden Fleece on the website, and stock it in significant numbers only in the biggest stores.

I would suggest you take the chinatown bus up to NYC some Saturday and go to Saks, Paul Stuart, Bergdorf, Barneys, Brooks Brothers, and Century 21, especially now during sale season. You should be able to head home that evening with something very nice for under $1000, possibly well under that amount. I'd guess you're maybe a 36S or 38S. Barneys had some nice sale suits in short, an Brooks usually does as well.

Obvious suggestions: H&M (pretty cheap though) and Zara. I own two Zara suits and I am a college student and I can't say that I've been disappointed. Just make sure you take it to a tailor. Spending the extra money on a good tailor can make an average suit look great.

Unfortunately I won't be back in Philly until September, and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay 15% sales tax for anything here in Montreal...do these places have good sales between now and mid-January (when interviews will start)?

Recommend looking at the fully canvassed Hickey Freeman suits. For under $1000 you can have a great suit. They have a sale going right now on their website with mainline suits going between $650-750.

You won't find Belvest or Caruso for that price in a retail store except maybe, just maybe, on clearance. Belvest mainline starts at about $3k and Caruso mainline I think starts just south of $2k. Only places I've ever seen come close are Yoox (they typically have two or three Belvest suits and a bunch of Caruso, some of which will be in the $1k range). Not particularly familiar with the others.

My guess is that Yoox is offerering a "difussion line" Their clothes look nothing like my Belvest sutis/jackets.
Nor for that matter my Isaia, Sartoria Partenopea, etc.

Try these guys. They sell Belvest mostly size 40. Not the short tight trendy style.

This eBay store too.

Might be the same merchandise as the first.

(neither has my size)

Some of them definitely are, they definitely have the silver tag on the sleeve. However those are still around $2k at retail, so the Yoox prices aren't terrible. The Caruso stuff is probably mainline and sometimes the Isaia can be had for those prices on Yoox or STP.
