I`d say there are a few factors here - Can you give them back and try a size up? Where are they tight - is the length fine, is it the sides - or do you feel like your foot has been squeezed and pushed all over? If its the latter, then a size up would solve the issue. Length is also an issue - but some tightness at the size may give in. I found the heel area very tight and does mold to your heel, but the front of the foot never gave in on my Barclays. It`s also not clear to me whether G&G recommends a size up on their boots - I`ve found this necessary on some other UK makers. If you can't give it back, and your senses are that it is too tight, you may be better off selling them before you see too much wear on them. I always side on the cautious rather than hopeful side on these issues - never had a shoe stretch on me with wear. Being stuck with a tight shoe is a horrible feeling. Think this one over carefully. The way your laces close over however seem to be fine to me - not sure how the front of your foot feels though - thats the most important issue, as well as how much room you have in the toe area if your let your foot fill in the front part of the shoe naturally (not constrained by tightness).

The shoe is not tight in the sense that it is not squishing my foot in any place. The length is ok and the heel is in fact, quite a good fit. I would have been happier with a little more room to the side of my small toe just to allow for some movement. I am trying to convince myself that the shoe will open up since the right shoe is more comfortable than the left - maybe a case of the right shoe opening up while being tried on during the sample sale. Is it advisable to insert slightly bigger shoe trees to stretch them out? Or will that ruin the shape? (I do not have lasted shoe trees for this pair)

I would hate to sell them back cause i really like em! (have already given them a nice condition + polish!)

In this case, give them a couple of wears, but you might need to stretch the toe box on that left shoe a little bit. Take them to GG and see if they would do this themselves, as they would know how to do it best. Worth a try to ask i think, especially if it's the only thing not right in the fit...

A few suggestions - try them on with thinner socks. If they feel better I would try and wear them in that way for 10 wearings at least. You may have to resign yourself that these boots are worn with thin socks if the thicker socks cause issues later. All lasts are different - I mean between different models so I would not worry about different socks fitting different shoes. The acid test of whether or not the shoe will fit well is after 10 or so wearings and after 5-6 hours wear. If it still is tight the next step would be a stretch. But as advised above I would contact the maker first. As for the shoe tree I would avoid this as a ill fitting tree is likely to stretch the wrong places.

I would suggest if anyone is interested in an Arran GMTO, to make their spec suggestions known. I know Nick is putting together an Arran GMTO right now, so speak up.

Mine (as most of you know) is an Arran in deco black calf, TG73 last, black welt & single leather sole...

This was before the price increase and shoe tree stipulation, so about $1100. We'll see what the duties are...
