From what I've seen Blake-stitched soles tend to be thinner, although that may not a function of the Blake-stitching process itself (lest shoe making experts jump down my throat). I remember DFWII deriding GY welting as a fancy glue job, and I believe he viewed Blake-stitching as a more authentic form of shoe making. I may have misunderstood him however, since everything I know about shoe making I've learned from this forum.

Is Blake-stitching inherently more flexible? Do soles need to be thinner for the Blake-stitching machine to function optimally?
Thanks for the info. What I read must be wrong then, not everything online is accurate of course. The info said that the Couture line uses much higher quality materials but is still Blake stiched. Nothing wrong with that, especially if you’re in a relatively dry climate.

They offer both.

On a related note, G&G made a line of special edition shoes for Zegna.

I've seen G&G made for RLPL and Paul Stuart Select as well. They're standard G&G models, with PS inserts.
But this is different. The Zegna models were exclusive to the flagship in London.

OK. I remember reading about this a while back. Zegna hired a new creative director who made a deal with G&G. They look pretty slick.

Yes, Ready-to-Wear lasts cannot be optimal for everyone, as they are always a compromise. If you feel good with Edward Green and Crocket and Jones, no need to try wearing G&G, once you found out that the regular lasts don't work.

A further possibility could be choosing a larger width, if available in stock.
I'll reserve judgement until I've worn my G&Gs a few more times. Another element is that in my current position I'm walking a lot more. I live downtown and walk everywhere, instead of taking taxis, and doing so on new shoes is causing extra stress on my feet.

Does anyone have a good side-by-side photo of Espresso vs. Vintage Oak and/or Cedar calf? It's tough to find pics where they're in the same shot and therefore comparable lighting / exposure / etc to highlight the differences. I have a pair of boots in Espresso and I think they're great, but want to branch out a bit on my browns since I have something like 10 pairs of these now and they're all Rioja, Espresso, or Black. Rioja has by far been my favorite, they wear so beautifully and fade just perfectly until the next polish.

Apologies if the formatting is off (trying to figure out how to do collapsible images / a gallery).

Can't wait to start wearing these from next week, and am sure they are the start of a dangerous hobby!

They’re works of art!

I think gaziano & girling might be the most beautiful rtw shoes on the market (and yes, I know there are great makers in japan & Italy doing outstanding things too).

I think you’re spot on there. I love my Crocketts and Sargents, but my G&Gs are just a whole different thing.
