I got these last years, and they have been on rotation with two more pairs.I’ve seen the Islay in a Coffee Hurricane Hide, they did it as a sale special. Crafty picked up a pair. I was too slow and my size was sold quickly.
I’ve got the Moray in the Chocolate HH, same leather as the Ross boot. I’ve had them a year, so not a huge amount of wear, but they have quite quickly become a favourite.
I’m intrigued by the Natty HH. @Giev do you have any pictures of yours? How are they wearing? How’s the leather?
I do wonder what I’d wear with a Natural colour boot?
Thanks for sharing. I’ve got quite a large-ish rotation, so not sure on the volume of wear for them to start to take on the kind of patina I think I would be looking for. But it’s food for thought. With age they seem to take on a nice mid-tan or dark tan shade. Scroll about halfway down this article.
Thanks, those look darker and more the sand colour than the natural, which I’ve only seen on the Div Road make-ups. Are you sure your Connie’s are Natural HH?I got these last years, and they have been on rotation with two more pairs.
I got only the scotch grain to compare, but they were stiff in the beginning but now are much softer (not too soft) than my Islays. My main complaint about them is the Danite sole.
You are right, these are the sand hurricane hides. Looking at the Div Road there are quite different. Thanks, those look darker and more the sand colour than the natural, which I’ve only seen on the Div Road make-ups. Are you sure your Connie’s are Natural HH?
My experience of the chocolate HH leather is it’s been incredibly wearable straight out of the box, took the least wearing in. I know what is coming out to be enjoyed later today!
I hear you... I could not make up my mind between the DB Hatch Islay and the DB Lindrick, and then decided to go with the Lindrick. 16 weeks wait...I’m the same, I am kicking myself for not getting in on the Special Edition DB Hatch Islay.
I’m cooking up some ideas for another Islay GMTO. I’m considering something similar to the TSG version we did last year, the half-bellows tongue works so well.
Considering one of the Hurricane Hide leathers, or I’m quite taken by the Rust Grain that’s on the Sale Radnor on the winter sale site currently.
Not likely at this time. That was during the COVID days. I will say we got that one in the quickest GMTO in history. I just don't see the interest or money like it was back then.Just recently got into C&J after mostly wearing PNW brands. Have been eyeing to get a pair of Coniston, a Reddit post sent me here, what are the chances of something like this happening again? Will likely pick up a regular Tan Scotch in the meantime. Thanks everyone.
There are a ton of other cool Coniston makeups out there thankfully, which might interest you or be closer to your style. Scotch grain of course, but also check out the sand hurricane hide model currently on sale. I love mine, closer in aesthetic to some PNW makers I think. Also the chestnut Russian grain from Steve at Gentlemen’s Footwear is beautiful. He has a username here but I can find it currently. I’m hoping he’s about to place an order soon with my somewhat odd size!Just recently got into C&J after mostly wearing PNW brands.
