I sincerely hope so!
trickerˋs claim them to be worn by british farmers.
but the first impression is as fenners say: lightwight and thin.
sending them back would be loss of the fees and aditional cost for posting. the fit is not perfect but still might work.

maybe we will become friends after some time!?

ordered at the factory store for 392,- euro I was forced by the german customs to pay another 125,- euro import fees and duties.
Huh? The new Factory Store should be all EU expenses paid right?

This is what my order said. Received 2 weeks ago, paid in € and delivered to The Netherlands:

I love mine for the price I paid, but the Factory Store isn't overly cheap compared to regular prices (35% off) or retailers. Do like that money ends up at Tricker's directly and you may still return unwanted items etc. If it's a model you want, go for it, but for a steal you need to look elsewhere.

I was a bit astonished about the duties and asked trickerˋs if there could have happened a failure in the declaration. their reply was

„Thank you for your email. As per the terms of the site, and also in the checkout, we do mention to check your territory for import rates before you continue.
Germany is not sent delivery duty paid and you will need to pay the imports. The price you buy the products is reflected at a lower price because of this.“

not very happy on the whole process and not very happy with the boots, I will stay to Crockett & Jones in the future.

I think you’re right. Deer leather has the same sort of feel and is known to be very robust. The main reason I haven’t worn mine much is the colour rather than the leather itself. The truth is, unless you are treating your boots savagely, they will last for ages.

I would be unhappy if I received another bill for €125 this week. It's not what is stated on the website, and the factory store is not that cheap that it easily covers all potential defects (they warn for scratches, scuffs and other defects too) and import costs.

I've been *cured* of purchasing clothing items outside the EU unless it is duties paid by the shop. To give others an idea;
  • Sale price $500
  • Shipping $30
  • Handling costs $20
  • Currency conversion fee 2%
  • Import tax for shoes 17% (when total amount exceeds $150 including shipping- and handling costs)
  • 21% VAT over the full amount
Together ends up €725 or $795.

Anyway, I can't fault the shoes itself. Own 3 pairs of Tricker's and they're my favorites out of 5 different brands or so. The ones from the factory shop have a minor gap between the welt and upper, but too little to be bothered about.

Edit: Tricker's does note that Germany is an exception. Didn't see that before:

maybe I have to read more carefully.

anyway - tricker's and me don't get friends, I have sent the grassmeres back.

I think you made the right decision. Even though you have to pay some extras, it's better than live with an unsatisfying compromise.
