Thanks Dan. 2030. Can't post that in the Viberg thread though without inciting outrage at its overuse and "poor shape".

Yeah, although I don't participate I've monitored some of the comments. Oh well, my only pair is a pair of 2030 Service Boots and I really like them.

As a 2030 fan boy, I'm amused about the "outrage" over this last. For me, it's not just that I like the looks of the 2030, they are an incredibly well fitting last for my feet. And fit is everything to me. I have a pair of 2045s (waxed flesh) that I really like the looks of, but they don't fit my feet nearly as well. I'm tempted to try the 1035 or 110 if I get a chance. (although Truman Boots have me intrigued at the moment as well.)

Also, I think there're a lot of 2030 fans out there on this forum. It's just that the anti-2030 guys are the ones being vocal. The rest of us are just reading and moving on. Really, it's to each their own. They're just disappointed that they are not given too many options for lasts that they like. And I can understand that.

Yeah I think that's the crux of the problem, they're not really getting what they want and we all do tend to be a bit passionate about this stuff. But I'm with you the 2030 appeals more to me as well.

I'm all for discussing things, but hopefully we won't drag the awful bits of that discussion in here as well.

Oh by the way, what have you heard about the overall quality of the Truman boot. Construction, Leather, design, style, and anything else........... How does it rate when compared to Whites and Viberg with regards to these things as well as price.

Give!!! LOL

Horse leather (not shell) seems to be quite common in SWD (the so called "artisanal" stuff) boots. It seems it's got a greater tensile strength than calf while still being quite smooth. Is there a reason why it's not very common in CM boots, where 99% seem to be either calf or shell and the other 1% some "exotic" leathers like lizard or kudu?

NMWA is a great way to try the 1035 ($680 w/SF discount). I almost kept that one, but decided I wanted something darker and I preferred the 2030 shape for my uses.

Dan, I don't yet own any Trumans so don't know a heck of a lot about them. Also don't own any Whites. I've read through the Truman thread and was quite impressed. Vince, the owner, seems like a good guy who really is passionate about his boots and loves what he does. I like the story behind that. The quality all around seems on par with Viberg from what I've read.

What's amazing is how much they look like Vibergs. Construction seems quite similar as well. One drawback, well two, is the lack of variety in the leathers (as it's a small operation), and the wait times. It's basically like waiting for an MTO. The other thing is he only has one last and one width right now.

I like variety and new experiences so will give them a try when an interesting leather comes along.

what's my best bet for a black calf balmoral boot with leather sole, with a shaft that's not too high (Carmina's are too high for my liking).  Price range is up to $550.

Bal boots will typically be pretty high. How about the carmina 973 in black calf via Skoak. Much shorter shaft.
