I think it all adds up, but essentially consumers don't always respond to the things they should because technology can be complex and hard to quantify eg how much faster is Word or my browser going to open with 3GHz vs 2.6? so thinner and lighter has become a proxy battleground and metric of stats, more so with tablets but you see it with laptops too.

Depending on what you are trying to achieve the Surface Pro 3 is great device that's worth a look in...albeit bad timing with the recent re-adjustment for the fallen AUD and the impending SP4.

Ernesto,

Pleats or piqué (marcella) are purely a matter of preference. However I agree with Appolyon that marcella is nicer. It's also rarer, and more subtle.

Speaking of Apple, I went to a Store and checked out the new MacBook. You know, the thin slow one with no ports.

It's pretty sexy. Sorely tempted. My current 11" MBA is four years old and the battery is slowly dying. It's served me well - four years is the longest I've ever gone without upgrading.

Many things wrong with the MB of course. But on balance I think I can live with them; and, as with all the other technologies Apple has early-adopted in the past, USB3 will quickly become widespread and then the norm.

My main concern is not connectivity, but the inevitable fact that in nine months Apple will release a v2 MB which will be insanely faster and better than this one. Oh well. [shrugs]

I would really go with the MBP.

The power difference and lack of USB ports would get to me, plus the MBP has recently gone through an upgrade.

Horses for courses. I picked up the MB and the MBP, one after the other. The MBP is about three times the weight and at least twice the thickness. For me, that's actually more important than power. I'm really not a "power user". OK, occasionally I'll be annoyed when editing photos. Apart from that, no problem. And the new keyboard on the MB is nothing short of exquisite.

that looks nice for the wintery crap we have at the moment.

How's the cut of the CT jackets? Is it similar to the very square structured and heavily padded TM Lewins?

Looks like a lot of cool looking shooz are on clearabce too for $199 which is a pretty good deal for those on a tightish budget. Obvious they aren't Eddies or Johnnies or Crispies etc etc, but these shoes still will last. edit: oh they're Loakes.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
