All of these were seconds.

Natural HMs: burnishing made quarters significantly darker than vamp. That’s exactly what I wanted, so they were perfect.
Black suede HMs: were brown, flaw was they were built with dainite rather than trans lug. Great pair otherwise.
Choco Liverpools: wrinkle in shaft liner; I don’t feel it.
Black Fifth Sts: ??? scuffs I think? Easily fixed.
Green shell HMs: ***** ass that used to post on here rejected them for very minor blemish on toe despite everyone telling him it was barely noticeable.

these are just my boots. I’ve got/had several other pairs of boots/shoes that were just fine.

Well. I wanted to take advantage of the F2 sale and I just received a pair of F2 shell Patriots. The right shoe is pretty and it fits PERFECT. The left shoe toe upper sewing is majorly jacked up and made the shoe a full size too small. I can't get my foot in it. AE Garbage. View attachment 1488690

Are they waiving the restocking fee?

And that is how you ruin it for everyone.

I was chasing those too! I remember the complaining. Sorry state of affairs.

Most of my AE seconds look like firsts. I’ve got a few that aren’t perfect, but not bad. If that’s truly your seconds experience, then I suggest you work with one of the recommended shoe bank SAs.
The vast majority of my AE shoes are seconds, other than the seriously loose grain on my Daltons, I would have to point out the blemishes that I found which I think made them "seconds". It would have to be another shoe person to understand the issue as well, because if I tell my wife I got a great deal on the Daltons because they have some loose grain, she will be confused and have no idea what I am talking about, hell it's only since I've been posting on here that I even know what loose grain is ?

I know some people are more picky than others, but if the price of a second HM is appealing to you get it!

AE Factory 2nds are similar to having 10 thousand paper cuts all over your body and then jumping into a swimming pool that is full of lemon juice...
I've had, over the years, pretty decent luck with ShoeBank 2nds, and using a SA. A few pair have had some glaring defects, but the vast majority had things I can live with. Worst ever were the MassDrop chukkas with shaft heights that were about 1 inch different, sold those. All that being said, stuff from eBay is often not 2nds, but 3,4,5ths IMHO.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
