I have some shell Dalton 2nd's on hold waiting to see what the sale price is going to be. I'm hoping for $399 again.

The shell boots are usually slightly higher. When shoes are down to $400, the boots are $430 or $440, if memory serves me correctly.

For my McAllister order tomorrow, is there any major negative to going with Dainite? Ordering in dark chili.

Having new heels put on costs twice as much (around $50.00 for Dainite, around $25.00 for other types of rubber heels). Some people have found Dainite heels last longer than other types of rubber heels.

I live in a city and walk almost entirely on pavement so tend to go through heels (of any kind) at a rapid rate. My friend who lives in rural West Virginia and hardly ever walks on pavement (except when crossing a paved road) never wears out heels.

Does anyone own this CXL Addison?

If I were to start buying shoes again and I were to complete the conversion to "loafer guy," these would look pretty good in brown especially. I'm guessing, though, with the CXL and dainite, that they'd be a bit on the heavy side for loafers.

For what it's worth, if you're interested in CXL loafers, I would check out Rancourt.

I was really digging the new AE Vancouver Cxl Boots, but I was a bit bummed when I saw that they were made in the Dominican Republic. I did try them on though and they felt kind of narrow.

I like the Vancouver too.
It looks like a 1st Avenue boot, but with a lug sole (and eyelets instead of speed hooks at the top).

It's a sharp looking boot.

Would it be worth the longevity of the soles themselves?

Yes, although I never wear out the soles on any of my shoes, just the heels.

I wish that were my case; I'm to the welt at the toes before I'm through the rubber of the standard heel.

Along those lines - AE had a reheel and full recraft service (including new welt). They don't have a resole/heel option without the new welt/relasting? That being the case is there any reason not to wear well into the welt since it'd be replaced during a recraft, as long as I don't wear into the upper?

The only danger is ripping the insole rib. But you would really need to wear the sole completely from the welt. The chances are really low though.

AE has a heel only service for $50. They also do heels and refinish the uppers for $90. Get the form here.

Tried them on in bison, and they were heavy.
