Think about it this way: there could have been grand civilizations that once existed across the universe but no longer exist. And there are other grand civilizations that might show up in the near future.

There are unfortunately so many ways to destroy a civilization that aren't self-destructive, that unless they have mastered faster than light travel (space warping{the actual theory, not Star Trek}, a form of Einstein-Rosen bridge, or some other technology / theory we have yet to imagine) and have populated areas outside of their home worlds so that they can survive and populate other worlds, we will never met them. Nor will they ever meet other civilizations.

But, if you ever look up at the night sky without artificial light pollution, you have to wonder....

I dunno the parallel universe thing doesn't really hit me the way most stuff about the universe(s) does. Mainly because of lack of empirical support. It's just neat idea until you have hard numbers to prove it.

Also is there anybody else here who enjoys the stories behind scientific discoveries almost as much as the discoveries themselves? I mean take a look at all that went into proving relativity or the expansion of the universe. Really great stuff.

my calc teacher is always going on how amazing that at the center of galaxies there is a super black hole and how the ultimate destructive force is essential to creating massive galaxies full of life

that is something to ponder IMO

All of the elements heavier than oxygen have been synthesized in novae and supernovae. We are literally stardust, and that's ******* cool.
