The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

When I bought my two-tone Rolex Submariner "bluesy" 16613 circa 1996 in 2019 it was $7,200 USD. The regular Submariner was going for $9,000+. Not only was it less expensive, it was different from all of the other Submariners (fake or real) that everyone seems to own.

I'm a poor man's douche. But the classic "used car dealer" sleaze vibe has got to be the Rolex "bluesy". A personal favorite of the Pontiff himself, Archieluxury. I will be rocking this on the July long weekend BBQ with extended family.

What is unstated is that the watch has a fair market value greater than the MSRP. So, in effect, ADs are selling a $12,000 FMV watch for $8,500 MSRP. Or in the case of the Tiffany blue OPs from Rolex, the FMV was $40K for a $5,500 MSRP. I don't blame ADs for trying to leverage the fact that...

The two-tone Bluesy submariner is for the guy who likes to film himself - think American Psycho (although that was supposed to be a datejust).

Panerai is another watch brand you only need one of. Every financebro in the 2010s bought one with their first bonus. The lugs are like the arms on a T-Rex.

This is one of those watches that really transcends hype or fashion. They were cool 100 years ago, they will still be cool as long as people wear watches. It is the one watch that I would not sell because there is nothing that could replace it, other than another Reverso.

Another watch you only need one of is a Reverso. I hear tell JLC makes other watches, but I've never seen one in the flesh. The gimmick on this never gets old. This one is from the early 2000s and unless you see that the hour pusher is on the case flank instead of on the interior of the...

Pope JPII rocks two-tone DJ. To be fair, the crucifix is full gold.

Breguet. Retrograde seconds is fun, but the power reserve makes the dial confusing. The great thing about Breguet and Panerai is that you only need one. They all look the same, with just slight variations in design. They are the AC/DC of watches: the same 10 songs are released on multiple...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Two-tone datejust is Rolex's best seller. Rolex sells a lot of these to women. Rolex is not a brand for race car-drivers, explorers, or pilots - it is a brand for Sharon in accounting who wears too much perfume and rocks a 31 mm two-tone datejust. Just call me Sharon...

The problem these days is that most things are purchased sight unseen. You can't try anything on because there is no stock. When I picked up the Tudor at the AD there was a customer that had the new Rolex Pepsi GMT in steel that was released in 2018. The ceramic bezel looked purple instead of...

Tudor GMT. Bought it the first year it came out. Had the date wheel problem. Twice. Second time it was out of warranty. To their credit, Tudor serviced the watch for free both times. On a bracelet the watch it top heavy and way too thick. So cheapo nylon strap for $30. There comes a...

SPIER & MACKAY - Official Affiliate Thread

People on SF love to whine, especially when the market gives them what they demand. 10 years ago the complaint was was how you had to fly to Italy and get bespoke if you wanted a Solaro suit. Now S&M has brown or green Solaro for CAD$648. 5 years ago it was how no manufacturer did Italian...

The question is who will fill those anchor tenant spaces. In theory, Yorkdale and Eaton's Centre are landmark properties. But how many retailers in the World are there that can fill that much space?
