“Spring/Summer 2018 starts in a memory from Barbados… A school girl walking on the brown ground under the blue sky with a kelly green uniform. The Caribbean is so full of color and contrast, shocking at times but always so beautifully together. There will always be notes of navy, khaki, and olive, but this time around our collection gets a jolt of color like never before. The Caribbean is key; I can only really give soundbites like Cuba, Ry Cooder, Kid Creole & the Coconuts. Morder Romance’s “Everybody Salsa”. Mambo, Rumba, Cha Cha Cha. Jamaica, Trench Town, Rasta, Rockers, Reggae, Bob Marley. An Urban take with a shock of color invigorating preppie dress codes is another point of reference, from Cross Colours to Andre 3000. Contrast, juxtaposition & tradition, music and layers, coming together as Engineered Garments.”

@bry2000 what fit are you looking for? I wanted the high water fit a la the fwk look book and sized down from my normal L to a S. Prob the only item where it’s possible to go down two sizes. The pants have a lot of give

Thanks, blue peter. I am not sure -- I can't recall ever seeing anyone wear the balloons IRL. I guess I don't want to size down so much that the waist in uncomfortable. On the other hand, I want them to be wearable without looking ridiculous. Tough question to answer. Ideally, I would try them on first.

What is the sizing advice for the New Balloon Pants FW17? If I take a Medium in most EG trousers (Fatigues, Ground), what would I take in the Balloons for the intended fit?

All sizes being equal, you would probably be safest with a Medium. The inside leg is only just 30inches. Unless you can get away with a shorter inside leg, the S is 29inch.

I got a pair although haven't had the nerve to wear them and get called Sinbad the sailor or Aladdin. The elasticated waist and elasticated cuffs are very hard to wear unless you are going for an outdoor pyjama look.

Thanks @Tramlines. I am not sure I can pull off the look. I tried the version from a few season's ago and passed at the time. But feel I might be ready for a more aggressive style. The 30" inseam is fine.

That's where I'm at with the balloon pant too.

If you go Small, you will lose the 30inch inseam although the Small waist can fit a Medium easily (less bunching with the drawcord). I've never seen these worn with just a t shirt or tank top tucked in - the waist is messy and needs covering up with shirt tails or something.

The balloon shape works better in heavier fabric, so that it doesn't go blousy in the winds we have been having. I do think these could have been finished better like the tighter cuffs of other loose pants on the market instead of cheap draw strings at the waist. The two draw strings dangling from the ankle cuffs are bad too. Might have to add some velcro in the hem to stop them. The best thing about them is the shape since you can draw the cuffs down to 6inches.
