Hoping that the collective hive mind of this amazing community may suggest a way to deal with this - I bought an Andrew Mark Freezer jacket, (please don't judge, I just wanted a really warm jacket for the sometimes brutal Canadian winter and I refuse to wear Canada Goose which is like a state-mandated winter uniform in this part of the world). Anyway, the Freezer is your typical down-filled parka but it also has a removable real rabbit fur lining inside the body of the parka and the hood. Should be perfect, BUT - the thing sheds rabbit hair like crazy - my navy coloured turtleneck was covered in it after just briefly trying on the parka as if I wrestled with a bunch of golden retrievers and persian cats all day!
I really want to keep the jacket but unless I find a solution to the shedding issue there's just no way I can wear it. I tried shaking off the loose hairs and "cleaning" the liner with a brush (not a pet brush like "the furminator", don't have one) and it didn't seem to help all that much. Does this perhaps get better with time? But even if that's the case, I don't know how I can possibly get to the point in time without annoying myself raving mad and spending a small fortune on lint rollers
Has anyone experienced a similar issue with rabbit fur items and is there anything that one can try to mitigate this? I emailed Andrew Mark but so far nothing from them. From some research it appears that rabbit fur sheds more than most other types although I grew up wearing full rabbit fur Russian ushanka hats (of course in Siberia, we just called them "hats") and I don't remember it shedding at all, they got abused, thrown around, sat on and used for a makeshift weight carrying implement, but they lasted for many years without any ill effect.
Anyway, anything you can think of, gentlemen - please share! I really hate having to wear my North Face Himalayan parka - it may be warm but I want something a little more discreet and downtown-appropriate. Thanks in advance
