Why do people buy J.Crew?

I bought the Aldrige khaki cotton suit for beating around in the summer and I was actually quite surprised. The thing fit pretty much perfectly off the rack with only minor alterations needed. Quality wasn't that bad either. Perfect for a summer time suit.

Their casual wear is good when on sale. I own a number of their chino's, sweater's and casual shirts (their madras and chambray are great). Not all of us are suited up 5 days a week.

Obviously their quality is not the best, it's all made in chinese sweatshops but for the price what do you expect?

I bought this suit off ebay for 165. The armholes are low, the jacket is fused, but it was inexpensive, and for the cost I think it looks good. Critiques on fit/ look welcomed.

I bought this suit off jcrew.com for 200. For 200 bucks I think it's a decent looking suit. Again, I may be wrong.

I had the pants hemmed and the back taken in on both jackets. If anyone has any suggestions besides buying and selling where I could get a better suit for a similar price point please let me know. I say this b/c buying and selling is high variable as to when you will find something worthwhile and what it is, whereas something from a retailer is readily available and easy to try on at any location.

Goodwill sells clothing by the lb here in No Cal. Quality is somewhat varied, but once you get past the stains the price is right...

+1. J.Crew, RL, and BB have enough sales to avoid paying full retail for most anything, and one doesn't have to wait long for a sale given that they happen predictably multiple times each season.

A lot of ballers on this web site. They buy their clothes second-hand at thrift stores but they jump on "poor" people who shop at J. Crew.

It's easy to fall into hyperbole when criticizing something you don't like, but the bottom line is that J. Crew makes absolutely unremarkable clothes that tend to add up to absolutely uninteresting and unimaginitive outfits.

I do not think it is a fair statement to say that "J. Crew is for poor people"; but on a forum dedicated to dressing well, where cashmere Brioni sportcoats get thrown on the Buy & Sell forum with some regularity, how can you possibly be surprised to see this mundane high-street brand roundly derided?

A lot of J Crew stuff fits me well. I tend to stick to shorts, t's, polos, cords and khakis. Long sleeve shirts and jeans do not fit as well for some reason. I have not been impressed with their suits, but I can see the appeal for the just-out-of-college set.
