And it's finally motivated me to fix up my old LP12. I have a really old motor and the internal leads, if anyone wants these for spares for the cost of postage, let me know before I chuck them out.

Goodbye stock old stuff, hello Hercules II, Cirkus subchassis and a Ittok tone arm that's been 'souped up' by Audio Origami

Score one for the little guy with this NuPrime IDA-8 I picked up. Demo'd it for a weekend and didn't feel the need to cross shop. I can't get over how good it is. I had real concerns over such a small amp driving some thirsty speakers as my Linns but it never misses a beat and can go louder than my ears can take. Superb imaging and the mid and highs are excellent (although the highs are more due to the speakers being 3 way I think). The bass has punch and definition even though these are bookshelves. I guess the DAC is good but have no point of reference. Still using an older Squeezebox Touch - will eventually ugprade to a Bluesound Node.

Nice pickup.

I am currently cross-shopping Integrated/DACs for my small listening room. If we don't get super snowed in this weekend I am going to try and demo the following: Hegel H80, NuPrime IDA8 or a IDA 16, Parasound Halo. The Hegel has incredible reviews.

The Hegel is excellent but also check out the new Peachtree Audio Nova Series. I heard the new line at Axpona 2016 and they sounded excellent plus the design is very stylish.

I posted before I saw this. Congrats!

what would be a better setup for a macbook:

swan m50w
or
pioneer sp-bs22 with a topping or smsl t-amp
or
jbl lsr305

my biggest issue with the latter is actually the size and the fact that i'd need two power outlets.

My father owned a small west coast (WA, OR, ID, HI) chain of record stores from the late 60's - 84' called DJ's Sound CIty. He passed away in 2008, but I'm thinking about having an interesting set of speakers restored. Any advice for speaker restoration. I know nothing about audio.

I always thought they were cool looking growing up! Apparently they were a dealer promo kind of thing.

No baffling, no bracing, and a reflective surface inside the cabinets... doesn't add up to something worth restoring. I see a hole in the woofers, is that what you want to restore? I guess for the sake of novelty, but I can't imagine those sound very good. Anyway, measure the woofer (or get a ser nr off it), there are no shortage of suspension kits out there to fix that.

What else is wrong?

Would this adequately handle sound for an HDTV ceiling projector+screen?

I have an old subwoofer kicking around which I think will hook in OK too..

Depends on the room size, and what speakers you're asking it to drive. It's not an ideal amp for home theater. There are a lot of these china tube amps floating around now, I'd be suspect of their sound quality.

Better options out there for what you need.

Yeah the speakers that come with certainly don't sound none too special. "Indian Nota". The exposed tubes aesthetic and discrete size drew me in. Not sure if the machine itself is MIC or not. Look cool on a mantle next to a screen though.
