Okay i made a big mistake purchasing a kenneth cole shoe. It is called kenneth cole play it cool oxford in brown and people told me not to buy it. I will be returning it. I read a lot of sites that say if you decide to wear brown shoes with jeans, you certainly can. However, you have to make sure the shoe is not too dressy, like polished type of look where you wear for formal occasions. http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/12341176.html I am pretty sure this is too polished right? I am assuming anything that says Oxford is too dressy for jeans? The thing is i want to wear a blazer with jeans along with brown shoes. The blazer is sort of tan/brownish which is why i chosed brown for shoes. Yet, like a beginner, i didn't know the brown shoes should not look dressy or have that polished type of look which my shoe does. This shoe is under the category of dress shoe when i bought it online. My question is if i wear a brown/tan blazer with dark blue jeans, does the brown shoe i buy must be under the category of casual? I am asking this because i hear people saying never buy dress shoes if you want to wear blue jeans even though you may be wearing a tan/brown blazer with it. Would a brown loafer be the best option then? I will definitley stay away from Kenneth Cole now. Thanks.

I think that the shoes shown in the link aren't oxfords, but rather derbies. They arre not the kind of shoes I would wear with a suit. I think that they looks "casual" enough to go with jeans, but even then, they are really ugly, IMO. Shapeless and "plastic looking", as far as I can see from the photo.
The fact that you should not wear to "dressy" shoes with jeans does not mean that you need to wear ugly shoes.

I like to wear dress shoes with jeans. Though most of the time I wear dark denim in slimmer trim.

+1. They remind me of a Kleenex box.

Exactly what I would've said. In fact I'm thinking of wearing dark denim with classic brown oxfords this very evening to dinner.

I think slightly antiqued brown brogues can look very good with the correct colour denim. I wore my SM wing tip brogues with a pair of well worn APC L'Anglaise two nights ago; they complemented well and I got complements, too.

Both brown derbies and moc's/loafer's will look great with blue jeans. What about a nice pair of sneakers? I just bought a pair of New Balance Comp 80's, which I think look really slick.

I prefer dressier too. I wore these with jeans just recently. I thought they'd be too dressy, but they looked fantastic.

Of course these would all be out of your price range, but the style is what you're looking for. Rich brown wingtips would look great too.
