Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch (1969) was a critical moment, pushing the limits of what levels of violence could be shown while stripping away the glossy mythologizing of earlier Westerns. Scorsese saw an early screening and that experience helped shape his vision.

Don't Worry Darling- Florence Pugh was great but the some of the plot needed to be cleaned up.

Peckinpah spent the last several years of his life in Livingston, Montana, much of it in his suite at the Murray Hotel. The suite is still available as a rental. It's a cool hotel above the great Murray Bar and the truly fantastic 2nd Street Bistro

And Chico Hot Springs in Pray, Montana has a bunch of memorabilia from Warren Oates who was a regular.

Knives Out: Glass Onion

Margin Call

Roman Holiday

Duck Soup

The Last of Us

Top Gun: Maverick

Whiplash

My Left Foot

Somewhat gloomy/rainy day here in NYC.

Just finished this while also watching Michigan v Iowa.

So GB and his wife are having issues. He is driving her to her parent's casa for some time apart when they stop to get some gas. She runs in to get water and never returns!

Over the next few hours, he contacts the police, checks if she somehow made it to her parent's house, and the sets out to find her and save her from what/whoever has her.

Your standard 1 man vs many flick. Nothing remarkable but I did watch it all the way through.

2.5/5.
I watched this movie last night because I love Breakdown so much. It was not nearly as good for several reasons. The wife disappears within the first few minutes of the movie, so there's no impending sense of dread. The characters, particularly the villains, are insufficiently developed for the viewer to care what happens to them. And perhaps most importantly, the movie does not have J.T. Walsh. Would not recommend.

Squeezed in two movies last night while still trying to use up my firewood.

Found "The Strangeness" (1985) on Amazon Prime. I hadn't heard of it before but decided to give it a shot. Seemingly low budget and some weak acting but pretty damn spooky since they're lost in a dark mine. I thought the effects were quite good, but the movie hardly dwells on gore so what you see is decent and probably points to their low budget.

Pretty good mindless world is about to end flick. It had a good number of tense scenes. The ending was a giant plot hole.

I have about 4-5 DVD's that got "lost" when I tried to return!

Kinda crazy to be winding down a 150m business with over a million active subscribers.

Obviously it is a declining market, but surprised they can't spin it off to someone who wants to milk the decline until the end.

Especially considering anyone still subscribing is probably quite loyal to the service (either because they can't get good enough internet for streaming, or because they appreciate the wide selection physical discs still offer).

I had no idea this service was still available…..
