not sure being the best, but my Patagonia are holding up very well after 20+ years of used and abused...not sure about the quality their products the last decade...It seems like they will/are following the North Face bandwagon...

Thanks SF, what makes you think Patagonia is following the TNF bandwagon? I'd say if there's any company out there who doesn't operate that way at all, it's Patagonia.

Anyway, OP, the Patagonia suggestion is right on. If you're specifically looking for a fleece (as opposed to one of the more recent softshell fabrics), Patagonia is probably your best bet. If you're opposed to that for whatever reason, Arc'teryx makes some nice ones.

I will say, just for the record, that TNF still makes decent products -- especially if you're just wanting the jacket to wear around town. The general consensus is that they're not what they used to be before the buyout, but I doubt you'll notice unless you're really pounding on the gear.

it is probably more of a perception because of the increase in marketing recently. They just opened a brand new store along the Mag mile here in ChiTown. I have to agree with you that because of what the company stood for over the years (environment, charity) is why I am a customer. I like using/wearing their products because of the simple designs and proven functionality. I was introduced to the company by some friends who are hardcore outdoor enthusiasts and swear by the products. Honestly, I hope they don't follow the NF path and saturating the market with lesser quality items..

I can sympathize if you like one company over another for its charity work and whatnot, but it seems to me a lot of people like to knock TNF because their produts aren't the most hardcore mountaineering produts available...even though the person criticizing would never use it for such activities.

Arc'teryx is as good as it gets for cold weather gear. It is very expensive (over priced for a lot of it quite frankly), but it will last you forever.

Dickies...
These jackets are made for men, women, boys, girls, infants and toddlers. The whole family can wear comfortable, warm jackets and enjoy the lightweight flexibility of fleece.
