bit more specific? I know they did guides on Italy and parts but Im talking about commentary/analysis/stories and so on, not the towns visited, which I am familiar with. Do/did B do this?

perhaps the german wikipedia version gives you some ideas as it's more informative than the english site...

you could take a look at the travel diaries from the likes of Goethe, Hesse, Montaigne etc..... that's what I would do :)
