done with Grapes of Wrath. Very interesting read. I'm still mentally digesting it. I may start Of Mice And Men later, then I think I'll be Steinbecked out...

In the meantime, all that Grapes of Wrath socialism has me feeling compelled to swing toward some alternate economic viewpoints, so Freakonomics is next up for me.

Of Mice and Men is hardcore Steinbecklite, so it shouldn't hit OD levels. Have you read Freakonomics before?

Because it is dumb, misleading, and he uses examples that are really old (and largely discredited) as "new and exciting facts".

Just finished The Finkler Question really enjoyed it, a comedy in a cerebral setting imo. But really, Jacobson wrote a great book

You could also read super freakonomics which doesn't depend on having read the first and is more legit (and has hookers!)

this is the correct answer. FWIW I have seen the documentary, found the cases interesting but the execution (from a film-making point of view) sub par. I see what they were trying to do, it's an interesting way to go about it, but in the end, the final product sucked. Still, it did pique my interest enough to make me want to read the book, so I am.

That said, the tl;dr answer remains "download the movie"

I'm going camping in the desert for 2 weeks this month. What are some good books to read in the middle of nowhere?

the intensity is actually why I recommended it. Think the starkness of the place would really make it pop.
