Not Japan but I found a “good deal” from Norse Store in Sweden last year and DHL not only charged a lot (15%?) of import fees but asked for a ridiculous amount of personal info including SSN and things like where is the factory where the garment was made. I think I just put their shop address for that but I remember it being a bummer.

Never been charged anything by USPS but always DHL and FedEx. I think the private shippers are more on top of it and the post office should be but doesn’t care (where I am at least).

Proxy sites are now asking US imports to specify the material used for items which is new.

didn't know about SSENSE and fakes. What are your recommendations for those who cannot buy directly from physical shops and should relay on online retailers. Should I just but when new items dropped and there were no time so that someone buys it and return fake?
can you recommend any online retailers who made quality check of returned items and where is ok to shop online?

Probably would only trust online e-tailesr who are small and the owner/clerk directly works with Visvim. That being said, I bet a lot of them don't really do returns in the first place.

not sure the juice is worth the squeeze as far as trying to check retail sites often enough to notice exactly when new items become available… I’m in the U.S., but haven’t had any issues buying online from Saint Alfred. FWIW, I most recently bought from SSENSE, actually, and the item was legit. As long as a retailer allows returns it’s probably worth a shot, if you really want an item. If you can’t return something or are buying used, I know the guys at Overdye (@shopsecondhandvisvim) always put my mind at ease

I would also consider items that are from the latest season, ie not past season should be legit- it takes counterfeiters a season (or two) before they get the reps online and into taobao. It only gets riskier as seasons pass and items sit at ssense. I wouldn't blink twice buying new, but if its on deep discount and last season its dependent on the item (more common things like sweats, tees, etc will have dupes, less likely for outerwear unless its popular).
