sorry I mean roughout (full grain) vs. split suede.
I was doing a lot of research on waxy commander and am pretty sure this is a full thickness (not split) suede.

How exactly that differs from a true roughout I cannot say.
It very well could be waxy commander is essentially Waxy Janus and waxed suede from stead is Waxy Repello

There’s no technical difference between roughout and fill grain suede. Seems like it gets generally marketed as suede when the product is “refined” and roughout if “rugged”.

Imma just get some samples.

I would love a pair of natty CXL service boots. I bet if they did a run with classic specs on 2040, people would jump on it.

Okay will do and thank you!
I would suggest trying a leather insole from Nicks boots (available on amazon/their website) for around $20. Works wonders at taking a little bit of volume and adding comfort without affecting anything else. I bought the chromexcel just because it was the cheapeast and not too thick.

Ridiculous question perhaps, but you know me: Do you think a pair of Service Boots could be recut into a derby shoe? Like, lob off the extra ankle height or something, then maybe stitch the newly exposed edge?
I remember seeing a video of some boot repair shop doing that to a pair of Iron Rangers, and they came out very nice. I can’t remember any more than that but you might be able to find the video by searching.
