Using Cordovan shoe polish on chocolate brown shoes.

I recently bought some shoes from a member here on SF and my father seems to think that using cordovan shoe polish on chocolate brown shoes is simply unacceptable.

Anyway Here is what the boots look like, and here is the shade of polish I'm going to be using on them.

Now he seems to think that polishing a shoe 1 time will permanently and drastically change the color of the shoe. I'm coming here to ask you guys if you think he knows what he's talking about, or if I'm in the wrong.

Polishing a shoe one time will slightly change the color of the shoe, because it is (or should be!) applied in such a thin layer. The lighter the polish/darker the shoe, the less it will change the color. There is nothing wrong with using different color shoe polishes on a single pair of shoes, it just has a different effect.

If you like the present color of your jodhpurs, and I think they are handsome, don't mess with it! Fork over the few bucks necessary for a proper dark brown polish.

So dickenshero, did you end up going through with it? I'd be curious to see what the outcome looks like.

I have a pair of Cole Haan chukkas in a mid-brown color that I am thinking of applying an oxblood polish to but since I've never seen the result before I would appreciate seeing or hearing your ( or anyone else's ) experience with something similar.

Cordovan is perfectly acceptable and looks great! BTW the boots are great looking.
