I had a black-tie rig made from the lightest Finmeresco. Smiths has re-done the book, but there should be at least one black in there.

The new finmeresco book is amazing. The fabrics are a little bit like minnis fresco but not nearly as brittle. Can't remember if there is a black but the book is huge with tons of patterns and solids.

How is it in the heat? Could you provide a pic? Might be interested.

Which is the best source for Harris Tweed or other loose weave tweeds online? Also, has anyone been to the Outer Hebrides, I was thinking of going there just for fun. And maybe also look for some nice vintage Harris Tweed. Is it worth the trip?

It is some time since I have been there, but a driving trip of the Outer Hebrides and Isle of Skye is fantastic. Very beautiful scenery, nice people, and interesting textiles. The best beaches I have seen in northern Europe, pure fine golden sand and clear water (you will need a wetsuit though!). I would really recommend it.

I've been to Harris & Lewis, about twenty years ago. It is definitely worth the trip to see the Black Houses and to possibly to see a demonstration of weaving, which is probably still a feature of any organized tour. The ferry ride from Ullapool is also worth the trip by itself, especially if you are lucky enough to be returning from Harris & Lewis in the evening. The cruise down Loch Broom toward Ullapool on a light summer evening is something to remember.

I am sure there are many places to purchase lengths of Harris Tweed on the island, but I have no recollection that would help.

Spoken like a Viking.

Will definitely do a guided tour, it's probably the least intrusive way of getting to see their craft.

As for Viking, well it is our old turf at least. :)
