Rather than start a new thread, I thought I would add to this one...

I am considering getting a sport coat made for 'casual friday' wear... I would want to pair the coat with charcoal or tan/beige trousers for a nice summery look. I found this fabric locally, and wanted to get opinions on it. It is pretty lightweight (9/9.5 oz), but I think it would fit the bill quite nicely. Thoughts?

These pictures were taken outside, so the colouring should be quite accurate...

maybe I should have put this in the "what makes a sport coat vs. a suit" thread...

Why do you say that, P?

I agree with Panzer - its a suiting. Its hard for me to describe why I believe so, except that, like pornography, I know it when I see it.

Its a suiting (despite the two colorways)- looks pretty nice too. SB 3pc.

Even so, it could make a decent sport jacket. In fact, I think it would be better just given the color, which is definitely on the bright side.

I think it is absolutely fine for a sports coat. I really struggle to understand why it would be considered a suiting

It would be a very casual suit - light colour with check.

Well, I really think it'll look like an orphaned suit jacket if it were to be worn sans matching trousers

You have spent too long whacking 100 year old cloth with brooms and inhaling the dust. That is a suiting. Awful as an odd jacket.

ok, we have the heavy-weights weighing in...(which I am thankful for) but I still don't understand why it is a suiting or a sport coat?? Is is simply personal preference, or am I about to commit a serious error by making this into a sport coat?
