The overwhelming, vast, 99% of Manhattan is a stinking, filthy, *************. The nice parts are kept well out of sight and access to the overwhelming majority that live there.

Lived there for about 6 months.. I liked it so much I had to leave lol. The beach, its' not huge but it's not small, it's not overly expensive, decnet food, great weather, smokin hot women, not too far from Tampa.

I don't think Charlotte, NC has been mentioned. I only visited for a day, but I remember two things: it was amazingly clean, and the line between city/not city was extremely abrupt - as in, not much on one side of the street, and all of a sudden huge buildings on the other. It looked like someone had come in the day before and build a brand new city from scratch. edit -

Basically, they did.

Most cities evolve over decades and the architecture and development spans 50 years or more.

Hugh McColl (former CEO of Bank of America) and whomever was CEO of Wachovia at the time basically made lots of sweetheart deals with real estate developers to build uptown Charlotte overnight into a semblance of a "metro", in order to compete for talent against business districts in New York, San Fran, Boston, etc.

It is not a coincidence that the Ritz-Carlton in Charlotte is inside The Taj McColl, err, the Bank of America tower.
