Tuxedo pants without the jacket? Can it be done?

I really like the look of my tuxedo pants and was wondering what everyone's thoughts are regarding wearing them without the jacket or tux shirt. I thought it could be an interesting look to pair them with a sweater or something of that ilk. Can it be done for a casual or semi-formal look?

I tried searching the forum but couldn't find much pertaining to this subject.

I do it occasionally. I don't really care what people think about it. I've also worn the jacket with jeans. Otherwise, the thing will almost never see the light of day. But it wouldn't make much sense if you were trying to be serious about it, it's more of a thrift store look. Not to say it has to be trashy, but it just can't be serious.

Yeah I was leaning more towards the casual aspect but I couldn't decide about the satin stripe... I don't want to look serious but I also don't want to look like a joke.

I've seen some young guys wearing the tux trousers, or the jacket separately on clubs and discos.

i wore my tux at the New Year's eve party and as I dance salsa a lot, you can't really dance with the jacket on. so I was most of the time at the party with the tux trousers and no jacket look. But that was not a black tie event.

I have seen on the italian shops, tuxedo-like trousers ( with stripes to the sides ) in cotton or shiny materials. made for clubbing youngsters..

So yes. It can be done.
