Travel dress

flying to NYC tomorrow, have an odd summer SC I wanted to pair with a (nice) plain white cotton golf shirt and denim for the flight. My wife says it's stupid and that she has never seen anyone wear a polo / golf shirt with a sport coat before. I must admit it isn't something you see often, however I think the casual nature of the polo is consistent with the sport coat and denim (with a loafer). What does everyone think, sprezza or stupido?

Are you just wearing it on the flight, or about town? If you were going to LA or Miami, I'd say possibly yes. In NYC, definite no (unless you want to look like a tourist from LA or Miami).

I personally never liked the polo with SC look but if you like it, and its comfy for a flight, go for it.

I personally hate the polo with sportcoat/jacket look. Wear an OCBD if you must. I cant stand wearing a jacket without cuffs showing.

Unduly fretting is the key here. IMO, too many travelers take dressing for comfort to extremes. I'm on a flight as I type, and I've seen many horrid fits already in the airport and on this flight. Albeit these folks look comfy, but one doesn't have to dress in athletic gear and bed clothes to be comfortable. My personal choice for comfort on what will add to 20 hours of flying today to Asia is linen - an unlined linen suit at that.

By the way, what the OP is planning to wear sounds fine to me for travel.
