Chair of my own design and construction, built in 1 week out of a single plank of pine with the dimensions 950x120x50mm. Something of an experiment and first iteration, but turned out surprisingly strong :thumbs-up:

Nice to see a little industrial/product design snuck into the thread.

Domino joinery?
That was the original inspiration/concept and intent, but when processing the plank I wasn't able to get the required 21mm(x2) for the 8mm bit. So I ended up doing all the mortises on a big ol table mill instead, where I could set the length to 19mm. So in the end both the seat rods and all the "dominos" were made out of the same plank I used for the rest of the chair.

Nice to see a little industrial/product design snuck into the thread.
Happy to see it appreciated :)

Amazing. How did you get the back to bend like that? That must have been a lot of work.

After selecting a section with the correct grain direction, then trimming and squaring it up, I left the piece submerged in water for 2 days to saturate it.

Then you put it into a pre-heated steambox for 20minutes, followed by about a 2 minute window where you're able put it into a custom template and bend it to shape before it cools down and stiffens again. After that you let it dry, and once out of the template you can further adjust the dimensions (but only larger, not smaller) by heating it up with a heat gun and stretching it out.

I posted a longer explanation of the process in the 'Cool furniture, design objects and desiderata'-thread that you can look at if you're interested :)

Congratulations, that's the coolest thing!
