Roman numerals on a precision time measuring device seem incongruous to me

Hm, I could see that, but the railroad track with its corresponding hash marks just behind the hour indicators allows for precision.

Yes, I'm one of those people who has never been a fan of the use of Romans on the Datograph, but it is still a great watch with a fantastic movement! Cheers!

Cheers! Yes, the movement is the reason to buy this watch. I spent most of this weekend with a loupe admiring it as I activate, stop, and reset the chronograph. It's really amazing. And fortunately, there is the up/down version for those who dislike Romans .

One thing that surprised me is how well the watch wears. In the pic above, I had on a dress shirt, and it fit nicely under my cuffs. Its understated elegance works with both business and casual attire. This could be a One Watch contender, if one were inclined to have only one watch (I'm not).

That's one thing I always gave me a drawback about the Datograph. It's a thick watch and I already have enough trouble getting my Speedmaster FOIS under the cuff. I'm glad it fits under your cuffs without a problem.

Getting ready to pull the proverbial trigger on a Rolex SS Sport model. I was given a 10% discount, with no push back on my side. What's the norm for discounts? Can I shoot for 15-20?

If you're still here reading this, you need to get in the car, call in a medical emergency, and organize for a police escort to get you back to the AD ASAP!

10% on a popular sports model, say a Sub, Exp II/1 etc., is excellent in todays economies where in many geographic localities these models are literally never in-stock.

I'm in the US, if that makes a difference. I was actually given a 10% by two ADs. Maybe I should just take my luck and run with it

This watch and the 5711 is going for a fortune on the secondary market.

It was a hard decision to get the 5711 or 5712, its unique dial layout and micro-rotor, thickness of only 8.5 mm made my decision.

I really appreciate Patek still does thin watches, against the trend of bigger and thicker.

If you can get 10% off that's a great deal. I haven't gotten more than that on a steel sport watch since back in 2001 when I got 15% off an Explorer II. The handful of dealers where I used to be able to get 10% off have closed and the remaining dealers near me won't discount any steel Rolex. Good luck with whichever model you choose!

At 10% off, I'd say there's no way you could lose ... and it's very unlikely you'd be disappointed with that watch regardless.

Oh, and if you get it, post pics :-D

For your first Daytona (stainless steel), would you go for the white face or black face? I will most likely use it as daily wear, office environment, semi formal. Thanks for your input.

(unfortunately, I won't have the opportunity to try either in person)
