@pmeis - Habring is the epitome of a @pmeis brand. It operates within what I understand to be your price range. It is somewhat obscure. It offers something that is unavailable within that price range. It is somewhat reserved and classical but still interesting. It has a story. There are a few other brands that come to mind (Trilobe?) but Habring is one of them.

I have never owned a Habring but I admire their watches. Hindsight being 20/20, I wish I had purchased this perpetual for $7,500.

Welp, 10 months later Newcomer was on to something. Threw a minimum big on an eBay auction for a laugh and to my horror and delight, I won. Price was basically equivalent to the lowest price I had seen one trade for, so I did okay. Wasn't really planning on buying something like this until next year, but here we are...

In theory, I would have preferred the 38.5mm version vs the 40mm, but being Titanium and a featuring an "alternative" dial design, it still wears well and probably helps the legibility. The thickly bolstered gator strap blows, but I have a handful of 20mm options, so giving this taupe saffiano a try first.

Nice! Does it distribute heat evenly, you know, like, when you're cooking a large pizza on it? ;-)

I've been looking at Day Dates and one in the exact configuration I like the best (I think) turned up at a grey market dealer not far from where I live. I'm going to go there Thursday. I'm a little hesitant to use a new dealer, I'm not sure if I like it I should pull the trigger or wait until it shows up at a dealer I've done business with in the past, like European Watch Company.

Last Friday I dropped off my RO at the AP boutique for service. It had started to slow down considerably and lose time. According to the computer, they anticipate 5 weeks, but said it would take a bit longer as they weren't sending anything to Florida for service until the hurricane issues have calmed down.

Handing over my RO.

They brought out a few watches for me to try on, but I believe only the Code Tourbillon was available for purchase. Here are a few pix.

The dial on this one is onyx. I'm not sure why they added the minute markers like that. They are a bit of a distraction and almost too small to read.

The case is white gold and ceramic.

This one is 41 mm. Not really a fan of this shade of green or all the minute markings.

The 38mm version in pink gold.

The 38 mm RO Chronograph. I like this dial, but it feels a bit too small. It also still uses caliber 2385, which is based on the F.Piguet 1185 so it has a closed case back.

The 41mm RO Chronograph with inhouse movement and dark green dial.

Overall, had a very nice visit and had fun trying on some interesting watches. The sales people at the Boston AP boutique are really nice. It was a far better experience than I had at the Las Vegas boutique 2 years ago.
Brought a watch in there earlier this year and they tried to ask me $900 to get a stock strap for a vintage watch remade. Fun stuff.

What is similar to the patek 3940? Thinking of picking up the newest gen with the exhibition caseback. No sunken subdials but it’s also like half the price of Gen 1 lol

I don’t mind going downstream to something cheaper with a closed caseback.

Any ideas?

Theres the VC perp cal but it has the same fugly lugs as Breguet and if I’m going with straight lugs then I’ll just go Breguet

5140 comes to mind. There's lots of angles to what makes it similar? Any of the 5x96 have similar dial markers and configurations (5496 would be the perpetual in that line). 5140 is the descendant/spiritual successor I believe of the 3940. Then there are the other perpetuals like the 5059 or the 5039 (kind of like if the 5119 and the 3940 had a baby) just depends on what you're looking for in similarity.

Please tell me the collection model names are not valgus and varus
LOL.
It sounds like that's what people think will happen, but also will the lower retail price mean it's the "gatekeeper watch" to allow new clients eventual access to their other watches?
You'd think that's what the Calatravas would be, but they're very expensive. I think they should make an entry level dress watch. But what the hell do I know.

The Cubitus looks like an ugly Nautilus. Which means it'll become a collector's item in a few years when John Meyer or Hodinkee hype it up.

I think the perfect watch for you is the VC 30020. I haven’t checked prices relative to the 3940, but I wonder if it isn’t too much more expensive.

Truth hurts.

The whole point of the Aquanaut was so that big spender whale clients with a closet full of perpetual calendars and chronographs could have a "cheap" gift watch to give to their children/nieces/nephews as a graduation present.

"Thanks for your $5mm+ spend, as a token of our appreciation, we're offering you a $25k beater watch; it's the perfect gift for an Ivy league grad with no concept of the value of money"

And now it's worth like x2-3 retail. Guaranteed the Cubitus is going to be heralded as Patek's answer to the trend around Cartier Tanks and Crashes. In the same way you couldn't give away Nautlius and Aquanaut 20 years ago, so too will be this watch now and then in 10-20 years people will be going ape$hit over them.

I'm waiting for the Code to go apesh1t in 15 more years.
