Frankly, I'm against tracking apps more than I am against tracking devices, though the two are undutibly related.

connectedness is a strange sort of contradiction. i just try to avoid being too oblique is all but i trust you to look for the good natured joke my man.

Is that the bracelet it came on? It looks to me like a jubilee knock off, say it ain't so. The case is strangely reminiscent of 1970s, with very straight lugs and 90 degree cut out for the bracelet. For a fairly large case why lugs are not pointed downwards to go naturally around the wrist? I like the minimalist theme they were going for.
How does the movement look?

it's an aftermarket bracelet I put on, as I didn't like the leather strap it came with.

There are more than just watches that are outdated relics in our lives. Ties and rings are fairly outdated but people still wear them. To me watches are more jewelry pieces.

Ehm there are far more guys especially younger ones not wearing ties and rings except for wedding rings.

I've been wearing a Motiv ring for a while now, more for the sleep reporting than the activity tracking. My more dedicated quantified-self (that's a mouthful) friends say Oura is better. But they're also sporting Dexcom continuous glucose monitors, which are a gateway to the Apple Watch, God save us.

There is fairly significant data out there that shows Fitbits/ Applewatch/ activity trackers actually make people less healthy and gain weight when compared to a similar set of people who dont use them. Its pretty interesting actually and makes sense when you look at some of the reasoning.

**Obviously this does not apply to everyone and I am sure there are a lot of people who use devices to their benefit...

What do you mean by “make people less healthy”, is it the compare two population kind of study or same population but controlled experiment where they wore smart watch for x month with then x month without

Yup, links to studies please? Probably outside the ambit of this thread unless watches come to include wearables as a class. Which I guess they may ultimately.

The findings suggested that for some people, having data about their activity actually encouraged them to make worse choices with regards to diet. For example, none of your activity may change, but with a tracker people were able to justify additional snacks, etc because they hit their steps/ goals/ whatever. Similarly, people who exercised with trackers thought they were doing a lot of work, but lacked the skills or context to interpret their data correctly, leading them to make bad dietary choices. There are also questions about the accuracy of some of the trackers, leading to inconsistent or incorrect readings. Its been some time since I read the article, so I dont recall all the details of the studies.

Again, I'm not a scientist, so take my posts with the appropriate sodium value...
