I'd like to hear your opinion about fit of this coat (sorry for poor photos): I'm 6'1 tall and 170 pounds, the coat size is 42.
Should I keep it as it is or get it altered a bit. I think it's a little too big.
Thanks!

Personally, I would not size down in this (for reference, I’m 5’11 and have the size 40). You could get the sleeves shortened if you want but even then I think this still works.

I wouldn’t say it is too big, at all! It already looks good, but once you add layers, you will appreciate it. Personally, I’m reluctant to alter coats - too risky something looks off afterwards.

Fit looks altogether off, you should send the coat to me.

JK. Looks really good. Don’t change anything.

If the sleeves bug you, have them shortened a little (not too much) should still cover knits and jackets worn underneath. Be sure to have the wrist straps and buttons moved if you do this or it might look off.

Looks great! From experience, the more roomy fit might feel a bit strange at first, especially if you’re used to more tailored coats, but as others have said you’ll appreciate the ability to layer. Once you get a chance to walk around in it out and about and you catch your reflection in a window, I suspect you’ll really appreciate the silhouette/drape and won’t have second thoughts.

That’s one of the main issues I see people having with some Drake’s items: having to mentally adjust to a different silhouette than what they are used to. Holds for the raglan coats, but also the coveralls (and the fleece I’m currently wearing!).

Decided to keep the PoW brown raglan. Marrkt gives me 800 gbp, but then takes a massive fee, so looking at what I’d get for it, I’m thinking for that money I’d buy it.

Anyway, I’m looking for a new bag. Should fit a laptop. Was thinking of below one by Drake’s, or else the Permanent Style tote bag. Just returned the Mismo Lakeside in leather, did not really like it. Anyone has this one? Like it?

Can't comment on the Drake's tote, but I can recommend Max Poglia's bags. I've carried this one for the better part of a decade and it just gets better as time goes on:

It doesn't have a dedicated laptop compartment inside, but I toss mine in there all the time, usually in a leather sleeve, but sometimes also without.

Yes, you're right, like previous and next commenters. I will get used to the conception of balmacaan coat. BTW, sleeves length doesn't bother me at all.
Thanks to all long time users of this thread, your inputs are always valuable.

Keep the coat, it looks great. Makes me want to buy the Navy Raglan. Fortunate for me and my wallet: it's sold out in my size, ha!

I agree with everyone : fit is perfect. I have the same coat, I wear it a lot.

Today.
I love wearing this denim chore with wool pants.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
