I’m heading to Budapest soon with shoes on my mind.

For those that have been, how are my chances of getting a RTW pair of Vass shoes as a walk in?

Could anyone give me some advice for sizing and opinions on the Alt English in F and U Lasts? I understand the U should be narrower and maybe half a size up compared to the F. I really like the look of the U last in pictures, but have also heard some SF users not liking the shoe when they got it in real life. What does everyone think would be the better one to get for formal/semi-formal events?

I haven't owned a pair of dress shoes in years, but I wear size US 11 in most shoes. Not sure if it helps, but I'm EU 43 for Common Projects, EU 44 for YSL Wyatt Chelseas, US 10 for Meermin Chelseas.

I have pairs on the U last and wear them, but they are definitely better paired with sharp suits. I’d go for the F last if you want something more versatile.

Sizing on the U can be tricky because of the taper to the toebox. I’m a US 11.5 and a 45.5 (loafers) or 46 (lace ups) in the U last. 45 feels like a good place for you to start.

Thanks for the advice! I agree that the U may not be the most versatile so I'll likely go with the F for now and build up my collection from there. Would a EU 44 for the F last be a good bet then since it's not as narrow as the U?

Anyone know if Vass will entertain MTOs for their Slipper model on the F last (potentially U)? I would like to get into the Vass loafer world - and the P last does not appeal at all. With summer aroudn the block I'd have expected to see a more diverse loafer offering (or perhaps, hoped )

I agree, their loafers don’t hit the mark as much as you’d hope. But they will do MTO - just be careful knowing your size and how that will work on a loafer rather than lace up shoe. I’ve got some U last MTO loafers.

They’ll do MTO for their slipper models.

As stated, make sure you know your size well.

Terrific. I've got an Oxford collection from Vass - entirely in the F and U last - both of which I take in size 42. Albeit the U is a little tighter, there is no discomfort in wearing them for prolonged periods of time.

As such - I'd likely move towards a 41.5 in the slipper world - based on my previous experiences across multiple brands (Carmina included)

Is that in line with your experience, gents?

IME I may have received a different shoe altogether, or just bad photos. I went with the F last in my same size as derby and oxford shoe. I just remember the last fitting tighter near the toe box and eventually sold them in the B&S I believe. Perhaps the color threw me off more than anything as I was expecting a medium brown but in person it was much darker than anticipated.

The communication via email was nice.

I'd love to visit Budapest one of these days, and just coordinate in-person fitting.

Off to Budapest...trying to decide which shoe shop to try. Vass is the obvious one (though if people want to suggest a second, since I'm there for week, happy to have a look).

Thinking about loafers. This is what they have RTW

P last? I think I've tried the P2 last in anOxford semi-brogue configuration, which I remember to be more elongated. I think the above feels pretty classic as a loafer shape. Not exciting, but it doesn't need to be exciting.

Still, thoughts and advice on visiting the shop?

What is the MTO upcharge if there is one?
