Somebody find me a mid-century modern house somewhere near Duff's and me and my wife will move to Portland.

Good luck on finding any house in that area. Especially if you go a little north into fremont area.... Its literally crazy, I've had multiple clients buy/sell houses all in that general area. People who are buying, literally need to put in an offer that day and people selling houses sell within 48 hours. Housing right now is crazy here. One of my clients, still hasn't been able to buy a house she likes and she's been looking for 6 months

and to Ahjota, If your going to be in the NW district try renting in ABC district. I know a few people who make not so much money and live there.

Oh hey, didn't even know this thread existed. Right now I live in "inner" SE, but really close to Powell. Recent employment in the Pearl, however, has been making me think about moving to a place in the alphabet.

Has anybody hit up Sen Yai yet?

Pretty good. I've been for breakfast once and dinner once. It's a nice, albiet familiar departure from Andy's other spots in town.

Last time I was there I grabbed dinner at Bamboo (sushi) and I swear they were offended when I asked if they had any ***** tuna because it wasn't on the menu...then they gave me this whole spiel about how they are the only sustainable sushi restaurant ever blah blah...then my friend asked if they had yellowtail, which provoked more passive aggressive anger. How were we supposed to know? HOW

Dude, did you not read the menu? They have items on it which they highly reccomend you do not order because they're not sustainable. Stupid restaurant. I like the concept, but it's overpriced and the preparation is whatever. I'd much rather spend my omikaze munneh at Boxer Sush. It's my favorite neighborhood spot that I can't afford to eat at often.

Just moved to Portland. This thread = godsend.

Has anybody hit up Sen Yai yet?

Went to Sen Yai last week for dinner. We had a couple of things. The stewed duck leg was really good.

I've been to Sen Yai once since asking the question, and neither I nor my friend were that impressed. I had ba mii tom yum muu haeng, which from the description sounds like something I'd really like. My friend had pad Thai for some reason (I've already had Andy's pad thai at Whisky Soda Lounge). If this had opened like... 6 years ago, it would've been awesome. But now there are so many great non-Ricker Thai restaurants in Portland that it just doesn't meet expectations. Some of my favorites are Chiang Mai, Paa Dee, Tarad, Samui...

Cool, will definitely need to explore those other places. I've only been to the Ricker restaurants since moving here.

Then you are in for a treat and much shorter wait times (if any)! All four of the above have distinctly different styles. At Chiang Mai or Samui, I strongly recommend ordering from the specials section of their menu, since they also have extensive menus of more "typical" dishes (Tarad and Paa Dee don't). Oh, and Sok Sab Bai---which is actually Cambodian, but the food is similar---is also excellent. I've heard good things about Red Onion as well, but haven't been.
