Depends on the producer. It's still one of the world's greatest wine regions, and the best examples are sublime. One other factor is if the producer is a "traditionalist" or a "modernist." In the case of the latter, they try to make the wine into a richer, softer and oakier Napa Valley/Robert Parker style. I prefer the former, but it's a matter of taste.

It's just two hundred bucks, and the best way to determine if you like a wine is to try it, so I'd say go for it.

Had this last night as one of the pairings in a tasting menu. It's 100% Tannat from Uraguay and in the style of a tawny port solara. Very interesting and this was its 17th year in the solara.
