After watching sour grapes, you may want to stay away from Acker Merrall & Condit

Anyone had Marcel Deiss' wines? My guy texted me saying they got a few cases of premier and grand crus. Riesling isn't generally my thing, but this stuff is supposed to be good.

Pretty sure your guy is mistaken as there are no premier crus in Alsace to my knowledge. I think they have 51 grand and zero premier. However, I believe there is a movement to create that designation.

I think Marcel Deiss is catnip to a lot of sommeliers, both because he makes good wine and because he's not so well known. I have only ever had his Alsace Blanc, which is a mixture of the 13 grape varieties legal in Alsace. I didn't especially like it because Muscat and Gewurtraminer tend to ruin everything they touch for me, but I would certainly give his Rieslings a try if I saw them at a reasonable price.

Spent Saturday night slaying some youngish Napa/Sonoma offerings with some friends:

2013 Venge Cabernet Sauvignon Silencieux - easily the biggest surprise for me of the weekend, never tasted before. Definitely a killer deal for $50, I'm buying with both hands if I can find more at that price. Would love to see how this turns out with 5+ more years in the cellar

2010 Silver Oak Alexander Valley - Meh... We had this side by side with the Venge, which blew it out of the water. The oak is just too overpowering.

2011 Trefethen Dragon's Tooth Reserve - this was the wine of the weekend... honestly it wasn't much better than the Venge in quality, but it's complexity and flavor profile was epic. 74% Malbec 15% Petit Verdot 11% Cabernet Sauvignon. This is your wine if you love Napa but want to branch out from the ordinary, its very smooth with integrated acidity and tannins.

2012 Turnbull Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley - I was pretty lit and lacking focus by the time we got around to this guy. Nothing really impressed me here.

First time I got an email that said I didn't get my whole allocation for an order... only 10 out of the 12 of last week's Pinot Noir coming my way :(

I assume since I didn't get my whole allocation, there will be little chance of a reorder if I wanted to. Now to find another two bottles to fill out that case so I can have it delivered.

I remember a few days ago they send out a near to last call for the 2012 Full Pull and Friends Angela's vineyard (Red Mountain) cab. It's a good wine and at $30 is a relative bargain for single vineyard Red Mountain Cab.
