Can anyone recommend an online retailer that sells Harris Tweed in a 3/2 roll, or 2 button with a center vent? I love O’Connell’s but going to wait for a sale. I found an almost perfect match in this J Press but I don’t want patch pockets. I found a few possibilities online from supposedly Scotland but they only show side vents and the jackets are made short. Any help is appreciated. Looking for any shade of brown. I’m not really worried about price as long as its less than 1200 new. I prefer classic. Like I said above O’Connell’s will be fine but would like to compare similar options.

I would’ve suggested Andover & O’Connell’s. O’Connell’s pricing is reasonable (even better, they're, currently, in the midst of their winter sale), offers both OTR & custom, and has among the widest selections of trad tweed.

A few others among the traditionalists.... Unfortunately, most "new"/trad tweed (sorry for the oxymoron) will, at least, slightly exceed your price limit. (I didn’t filter for patch.)

-Cable Car Clothiers (SF)
-Ben Silver (Charleston, VA)
-Dann-Online (website frozen in time; questionable service)
-Eljo’s (Charlottesville, VA, in transition; new owners take over in Feb)

Your most reasonable pricing choices will be among O'Connell's, eBay & Etsy. Unless you get lucky in the SF B&S.

Cable Car Clothiers is usually overpriced and its' merchandise is " dated"
It's always 1958 at Cable Car. Andover has a large selection, especially MTM.
I got a tweed jacket there in 2023, MTM . I have no idea what it is. I just liked it
in a swatch book. I'll try to find out. OConnells is very "trad" no side vents etc.
I understand that they can accommodate you MTM if you veer from the pure
sack coat.

I concur; CCC is precisely as you've described. However, it is due to their anachronistic nature*, that I posit that they (and those like them) are well positioned to offer precisely what the OP desires: trad tweed, center vent, no patch pockets, "classic" proportions. (Their prices, unfortunately, are~$300 over his max.)

Your other suggestions, while top notch, mirrored those previously suggested.

Meeting the OP's needs and also his desire to navigate around the classics of O'Connell's, and seemingly, beyond the previously suggested, Andover and J. Press, is truly a tough "ask".

*Harris Tweed's production apex was in 1966 (Wikipedia), a "dated" haberdashery, where "it's always 1958," seems appropriate.

The Russell Check is one of my favourite patterns. I'm amazed how intricate yet clean it is. It resembles a work of art.

A gorgeous jacket by taillour.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
