Can anyone recommend an online retailer that sells Harris Tweed in a 3/2 roll, or 2 button with a center vent? I love O’Connell’s but going to wait for a sale. I found an almost perfect match in this J Press but I don’t want patch pockets. I found a few possibilities online from supposedly Scotland but they only show side vents and the jackets are made short. Any help is appreciated. Looking for any shade of brown. I’m not really worried about price as long as its less than 1200 new. I prefer classic. Like I said above O’Connell’s will be fine but would like to compare similar options.

I am not specfially sure of Harris Tweed but the Andover shop specializes in natural shoulder
Ivy clothing with center and Side vents. I am an MTM client. Unfortunately, their website is a
mess and hard to navigate. I would call or email them, If you like the cut of O'Connells, Press,'
and Andover, don't even consider Walter Slater or Cordings jackets. The have built up" British-
style shoulders and are defintely lower quality than O'Connells and Andover. I've been
in Slaters and Cordings.

Does unlined tweed stretch out if you put it on a hanger? It seems like it would in the less densely knitted varieties

Try using thick hangers rather than thin hangers. This will prevent the jacket shoulders from stretching out.

Andover Shop? Also, is Winston Tailors (ex-Chipp) still at it?
Winston has been gone for maybe 7-8 years. Paul has retired.
I was a client for more than two decades when it was Chipp.
Wonderful clothes for the price. Great collection of tweeds.

Beautiful jacket.

So far, I've only had jetted pockets on a dinner jacket because it seems you can tuck in the flaps for a jetted pocket look. The flap can suddenly become useful if the pockets sag (more likely with soft tweeds). Am I missing something?
Some consider sagging patch pockets to be of, um, old world elegance you might say. I do.
I wanted to buy a tweed jacket to wear to university. Will it be too hot for me indoors? If so, I should avoid wearing tweed because in winter it will be hidden under a winter parka and I will have to take it off indoors. Then there is no point in wearing it.
I have a Uniqlo jacket in a tweed blend. 70% wool and 30% polyester. It is so thin that the light shines through the back, but the texture is suitable for the winter season. I was thinking of ordering a thick MTM tweed, but I have heard people complaining that they cannot wear it indoors. Although I really like thick fabrics for the way they fit and hide figure flaws, there is a limit. Also, it may be difficult to wear thick tweed with a coat.

Uniqlo wool jacket. Size S weighs 450 grams
Depends on a lot of things: temp of room, your preference, the tweed's weight, if it's lined, what you're wearing under it, etc. I think 14oz tweed is fine in most buildings in winter with a shirt and perhaps a tie, but not with a sweater under it. For overcoats, you might try an unlined parka or trench over tweed.

I've never had that problem, but if you're concerned, might as well go lined. I get my tweeds fully lined now.

Guy should sleep in that jacket for a couple of nights to loosen it up, way too stiff for tweed. And when you don't cut sleeve ends on the bias, they end up looking like that. I won't bother to mention that I don't care for tweeds cut with a plunging neckline like that one, so I won't mention it.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
